NGD - pointy tele

So I got myself another deal on another beat up piece of gear. This time it's a fernandes tej55-G that has been given a paintjob and relic'd by the previous owner, 70 bucks shipped.

The guitar came with no knobs or tip, so I used a piece of lego for the switch tip, a relic'd metal amp knob and a random black tophat knob I had lying around. Might order another metal knob for the tone so that it matches.

The pickups were not too bad, but nothing inspiring either. Neck single coil has EVII engraved on the cover, any of you guys happen to know what it is? the BHK humbucker in the bridge was later replaced with a vintage dimarzio super 2.

All in all I'm pretty happy with this purchase. The guitar plays really well only with a little setup and the relic looks pretty badass with the covered pickup installed. I might unrelic it soon though as I'm having cravings for a red guitar. Give me ideas for a refinish, guys :headbang:

Re: NGD - pointy tele

I think it's perfect exactly how it is, gives it a coolness factor that a shiny new red finish can't compete with

Awesome axe man!!! Personally I wouldn't touch it, I love Relics but some Candy Apple Red with metallic flakes would give her a nice old Hot Rod look & that would be pretty badass as too, especially with the bound neck!!!

Very cool guitar. The relic job is done tastefully. If you decide you don't want to keep it like that, how about just a good clear coat over the whole thing? It would be different. After all how many clear-coated relic jobs do you see?

That's kinda how Gas Monkey Garage (on Discovery Channels's Fast'n'Loud) got started. They would clearcoat old hotrods and pickup trucks after cleaning the bad rust off them so they had that patina but wouldn't continue to rust out.

Re: NGD - pointy tele

thanks for the comments, guys.
though I have to admit the the previous owner really did an awesome job, it doesn't feel right to me playing a guitar with someone else's relic-ing on it. it makes me feel like the guitar isn't truly mine yet :D so I'm sure at some point in the future I'm going to give it a new look, maybe a sparkle red finish, but right now I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, it's definitely one of my best playing guitars and the dimarzio super 2 growls in this thing. I'm gonna look for a tele neck pickup to put in though, as I'm not exactly impressed by how the neck single coil currently sounds :P

Wow, that is awesome! I'd repaint it too, not sure what I would do though. Maybe a sparkle gun metal grey.

Sounds like a cool show. We don't get it here.
