Just scored a pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar on eBay UK for under 200GBP (250USD) including shipping. Should be here in a few days. The vendor has even been kind enough to "relic" the pointy end of the headstock. :D

The OEM pickups and electronics will be removed on arrival and American replacements installed.

Re: NGD: Pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar

nice one!
you've already got one of these, don't you?
the stock stuff was pretty good on mine, FYI

No. I have an SE One model with a few modifications.

Re: NGD: Pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar

Premature NGD threads suck. Pics. Worthless without.

Still, though. Congrats on the new guitar. I've heard those things are sweet. :beerchug:

EDIT: That's a ****ing great price, too. Nicely done, sir.

Re: NGD: Pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar

i wish i'd wrapped some foil and a ground wire around each of the stock pickups on mine, before removing them altogether and going down the dimarzio soapbar-sized humbucker path.

in hindsight, i'd have been better off shielding it as much as possible, and trading the amp up with the time/money i spent on pickups.

Re: NGD: Pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar

Premature NGD threads suck.

At my advanced age, a guy has to post before senility causes him to forget that he even bought a guitar. :D

Cavities permitting, this one is going to get a pair of stacked coil soapbar pickups, series/parallel switching and better electronics.

I may keep the guitar. I may attempt to sell it to a guy in my area who owns a Gibson Les Paul Custom 1968 re-issue and a Fender HR Deluxe and who keeps asking me how to get a good Blues tone!!! Really! :eyecrazy:

To anybody on the forum who digs PRS SE MIK pickups, I shall soon have a pair available to sell or trade.

Please let me know when you are ready to let go of them. However, after you play them you may change your mind.

Please read post #3. I already own a PRS SE One. I did not like the OEM pickup in that. I tried the Kent Armstrong Hot P90 that I have owned forever before finally settling on a SD Antiquity P90.

Rest assured, I shall give the OEM pickups a fair crack but I anticipate desoldering both them and the stock electronics before the New Year.

Regarding selling or trading the PRS SE stock P90 style pickups, I am in the UK. This will have an effect on shipping costs to wherever you are. If you are still interested, PM me. I also have a third PRS SE P90 but that is currently converted to dogear format using the original Kent Armstrong baseplate. It is an easy job to convert it back. If you wanted all three, I could even make one of them RP/RW for you.

Re: NGD: Pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar

I have a Soapbar SE II maple, and a Semi-hollow p90 SE
I tried the GFS (vintage 90s)and several Dimarzio humbucking P90s (Tone Zone; DLX +)
I went back to the original pups, 'cause that sound was why I bought the guitar in the first place. IMO they are that good, unless you don't want a P90 tone.
FYI I use the tone control as a volume, so I can have independent control, and so I can 'blend' in the neck pup when the switch is in the center position. This really opens up these guitars, and gives more usable tones.

Re: NGD: Pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar

Stone me. Another potential buyer. :D

EDIT: Perhaps, I should add something by way of clarification? I am not saying that PRS SE stock pickups are bad. I am just saying that I prefer something else.

Here is a list of some P90-equiped guitars that I like.
Gordon-Smith GS1 (single cutaway, Junior/Melody Maker hybrid)
PRS SE One (single cutaway)
Gibson LP Junior Special (single cutaway, P100s out, SD P90s in!)
Gibson LP Standard P90 Goldtop limited edition (single cutaway)
Gibson ES-125CD (single cutaway)
Squier VM Telecaster Custom II (single cutaway)
Modified Fender Telecaster with P90 neck PU (single cutaway)

Some of you may have noticed a pattern beginning to emerge in this.

um... you can probably forget about putting stacks in that guitar, Stinkfinger.
chances are they'll be as tall as the body is thick.

The guitar finally arrived. (Delayed by a combination of snowy weather and courier incompetance.)

The following attachment images are for dr. ad and briggleman, respectively.

The only difference between the two PRS SE soapbar pickups is that the cable on the neck pos unit is one inch longer. On my creaky old analogue resistance meter, they read 9.5 kOhms. If anyone is really keen, I have a third PRS SE Soapbar pickup stashed away somewhere.

Re: NGD: Pre-owned PRS SE Soapbar

take a photo of one sitting in the route...
although i'm starting to think my SE is a little leaner. which concerns me

Seattles greatest band returns?

Who is this band your tome speaks of?

Shan't! Placing an SD P90 Stack in the neck PU rout leaves the entire upper coil clear of the body wood. Placing a Gibson P-100 in the cavity induces vomitting. (Don't worry. I disinfected the guitar straight afterwards.)

In PRS speak, the neck PU rout depth is 22/32nds of an inch. The bridge PU rout depth is 10/32nds. For the STKP-1 pickups, SD recommends 41/32nd and 25/32nds (33 and 19mm).

Like it says in the photo, "undgar". :D

Ugh. I can't believe I missed the biggest font on the page. I totally would have got it, too. I just very recently reacquainted myself with BadMotorFinger. I ****ing love that album.

Anyway, I can't believe how long it took that thing to arrive. Congratulations again.

You really like your little close-up teaser pictures, huh? Let's have the full frontal! I want nothing left to my imagination.
