NGD - PRS Mira X

Got this from The Gear Page. It's a PRS Mira X. It's Made in USA.

It has a Basswood body, Sipo Mahogany neck & Pao Ferro Fretboard. 22 frets & 24.5" scale.
This is one of the lightest guitars I've ever held. Just over 5 lbs!
Funny because the case is heavy duty & probably weighs about 15 lbs.

Has a Les Paul Special/SG vibe.
Plays like a dream. Low buzz free action. Great fretwork. The Pao Ferro fretboard is really dense. It looks like rosewood but without all the pores. Smooth as glass.

Been playing it thru my JCM800 and it Kills! Great rock & blusey tones.

Looking forward to gigging with a 5 lb guitar.

Sweet!

I had a Mira (one of the standard ones) in that eggshell blue color when they first came out and it was a great guitar. Also really light.

But I think the Mira X is cooler... I like the less-contoured body on them. Just looks more solid.

Play it in good health!

I got a great deal on it.
$725 shipped.
Not bad for USA Made PRS.

I got it from the original owner. The warranty card has never been filled out. I don't think he even played it. It was never set up. The action was high, intontation was off and the bridge PU mounting ring was on backwards. At first I thought I was going to put something under the PU to get it parallel with the strings then I noticed the ring being backwards.

When I first got it I plugged it into my amp and thought, Yeah, pretty good guitar.
Then I put my strings on (9-42), set the action and adjusted the PUs.

Now it's an all out Smokin' guitar. Plays like butter. Great PUs. Their a little on the bright side but I handle that with the guitar's tone knob.
They remind me of a brighter version of Patent Number Gibson T-Tops I used to have in an old SG/Les Paul.

The guitar just feels "right" when I strap it on. Fits me like a glove.

Re: NGD - PRS Mira X

I thoroughly dig that Mira X. Good luck with it. I have been eyeing one for a while now. I think the weight throws a lot of people. Plus that kind of coin for a basswood guitar is a little odd. They do sound great though.

Re: NGD - PRS Mira X

Sweet guitar, what is the neck profile like?

The specs say Wide/Fat profile. I had no idea what that was going to be like but it's not as wide as a standard Gibson.

My main gigging guitar for a while has been my Hamer Artist. It has a thinner nut width and a fat profile. I've always liked thinner profiles but the Hamer fits me like a glove. It plays really easy.

The Mira X has almost the exact same neck profile. I can switch back & forth between the Hamer & the Mira and the necks are almost identical.

Another reason I like the guitar so much.

Yeah, it's so light that I can see some people thinking it feels a little "toyish".
I can tell you that it definitely doesn't sound toyish.

Price for a new one may seem a little high but have you seen how much the MusicMan basswood body guitars go for?

This is a USA Made PRS. Close inspection of the guitar shows the quality of the build. I normally have to adjust the truss rod on guitars but this one is perfect. Great fretwork. No buzzing or dead spots anywhere.

Acoustically it's VERY loud. Louder than my Hamer Artist (semi-hollow), Fender USA Strat and Gibson Melody Maker (which I just sold).

The only thing I might change is I might find a smaller case. This came with a large rectangular case. It's very nice but they take up a lot of real estate in my car.

I didn't mean it as a knock (re: the basswood) I was just surprised that's what they went with. I really like the guitar a lot, at $725 I could not have passed that up either, nice score.

No offense taken.

I read an article that said PRS wanted to make a more afforable USA guitar that was worthy of their name.
To do that that chose woods that are more affordable but still sound good.

I have no complaints on the tone but the real test will be when I use it at a gig.

Re: NGD - PRS Mira X

Looks like a great, stylish, no frills, workhorse and well designed guitar... I'm sure it's a gigging machine! Congrats.

Re: NGD - PRS Mira X

I'm sure it rings like a bell, being that light.

I've always liked two tone hardware. If that guitar were mine, and I wanted it to be perfect, I'd install a nickel/gold pole Brobucker/PGn set.
