So I picked this PRS SE Mike Mushok from a local music store yesterday. It's a killer guitar! It plays great and resonates well. The pickups gotta go, but all in all, I'm really happy with my purchase! The tuners aren't as bad as I remember my other PRS SE's being either.

I have a few pickups to try in it. I have a Black Winter trembucker, a DiMarzio Dominion Bridge, or a Gibson 498T for the bridge position. I have a DiMarzio PAF Pro, a Phat Cat, or a '59B for the neck. I kinda want to try a Dimebucker in it for the bridge position, though. I don't know if I should get one.

So yeah, killer guitar! Love them PRS SE's. TBH, I like my PRS SE's better than my Ibanez Prestige, so go figure. I just wish they had thinner, flatter necks or at least a flatter fingerboard radius, lol.

Nice! I’ve been thinking of selling my 7 string that I never play and getting one of these.

Re: NGD! (PRS SE Baritone)

Thank you, dudes!

For me, a baritone is much more fun to play than a 7 string. Then again, I'm all about low-string chugging rather than weedly weedly un the upper frets, lol.

The bridge is alright. I'm more of a Gibson-tye bridge guy, but this is comfy enough. I prefer the Tonepros in my other SE, though.

:)

I am jealous of you! I would love to have a PRS baritone! Hope you love it!

Thanks, man! I do love it.

Right now, it's tuned to Drop A, but I'm thinking I might snag a set of 13's (it comes stock with 14's), and tune it to Drop Bb to play some In Flames.

Re: NGD! (PRS SE Baritone)

Intuitively, 498t will be all wrong for that

Black winter, distortion, invader, dime/L500xl, 85/85x, 81x, bridge Blackout, Dactivator, X2N, crunch lab.

I have the PRS SE 277 Semi Hollow which was developped after the Mike Mushok, but that 27"7 baritone is chambered with one F hole (mahogany with flamed maple top) and pickups are P-90. It is a fantastic guitar !

Re: NGD! (PRS SE Baritone)

The semihollow seems interesting too! Honestly, I think this guitar plays even better than my 25" Nick Catanese PRS SE. I'm still in the honeymoon period, but I honestly think this might be a keeper for sure!

Yeah, I'm probably not going to go for the 498T. I'm leaning towards the Dominion, but I also really want to try the Nazgul and Dimebucker.

Out of those you mention, I've tried and not liked the Crunch Lab, and the Bridge Blackout. The X2N seems interesting too.

Re: NGD! (PRS SE Baritone)

I just meant, imho, it ain't hot enough for the stuff you mentioned (In Flames)

Maybe a 500t, but not a 498

But, then again, they supposedly use a short 24.75" scaled LP Custom with EMG 81 + 85 pups

I don't see it not being hot enough. There was a period where I was like "yeah, low output pickups sound great under lots of gain". I used to run '59B's and Whole Lotta Humbuckers, and never struggled for gain with my amps. I'm back in the world of high output pickups, but not because I need my amps to be driven harder, but because high-output pickups are usually voiced tighter and more aggressive. I agree, though. I doubt the 498T would be tight enough for what I want to do.

Then again, JMO. :)

Re: NGD! (PRS SE Baritone)

Yeah I think you will keep your Mike Mushok :) and they do not produce it anymore I read.

About the strings for a 27"7 PRS, I use 14-68 (Daddario EXL157). It tunes to low B but A# and C are possible.
I am just sharing this experience : I tried to replace the wounded 26 string (the third one) with an plain 26 and hated the sound. So I put back the 26W.
Now I am using also a wounded second string (w18) it is harder to bend but sound nice in such long neck. Only the first string is plain steel.

Here's a pics of the 2016 MIK PRS 277 Semi Hollow with P-90. (There is also a solid body version with humbuckers). Just after I bought it they released four addiitonal SE versions with fancy exotic wood veneers like splatled maple and zebra wood.

There is no MIA PRS baritone it seems. Maybe the market would be too small.

Re: NGD! (PRS SE Baritone)

I ended up puting a Dominion in the bridge (still on the fence) and a Phat Cat in the neck (killer cleans!) in it.
