NGD PRS SE Soapbar II

some guy traded in 2 new PRS SE Soapbar II's in to the local shop... grabbed a brown sunburst one... super nice axe for $300... like brand new with gig bag...

Re: NGD PRS SE Soapbar II

gave it a test drive last night... wow... i was not feeling well yesterday, but a new axe to pick on felt great

Re: NGD PRS SE Soapbar II

Smart choice. Upgrade the pickups, electronics and machineheads and you'll be hot to trot. Wattage and I both dig a Filter'Tron style pickup in the bridge position.

Re: NGD PRS SE Soapbar II

i was going to wait to Boxing day to shop for guitars but this one just felt right... the electronics sound good stock... i may mod it later... only thing i plan to do to it is shave the sharp fret ends down... the over all feel of this thing with the warp around bridge and the neck shape and the fret work is great! so much so i'm eyeing other SE models now but with humbuckers... i like the feel of a SE245... very Les Paul like... the neck shape is different then other SE models too... fatter not as thin.. i also like the Korina models...

Congrats on the new guitar.

If you are interested, I'm selling my SE Singlecut Korina. Gotta pay bills. It's got Air Classics in it.

Re: NGD PRS SE Soapbar II

If you want to tweak the tones, a mag swap or two should take of that.

What about a Santana SE? I have one of those.

cool! it'll be until later in the new year before i'm ready to get another SE, and was planning to trade in some less used guitars towards one... i have my eyes and pocket book ready for a few more expensive guitars i think will be discounted heavily after xmas... we will see... i need more guitars like a hole in the head... LOL

ya i tried the Santana SE... i find i like the SE's less with trems and like the warp around bridge tone... which to me is a surprise because i'm normally a trem guy...

I hear ya. I would like lime more than I need but need to get finances taken care of. I have ones I need to keep, like the ones I assembled myself, and a couple others. The rest are fair game. Moving out lots of stuff actually.

Re: NGD PRS SE Soapbar II

Arguably, the hardware is the weak point on the SE range. The fixed bridges always strike me as a safer bet. I favour the all-mahogany 'n' P90s models. A wrapover bridge is part of that whole Junior/Special vibe. My SE One with the TV Jones Classic pickup does the Malcolm Young grit through valve amplification.

Re: NGD PRS SE Soapbar II

one of the reasons i wanted one of these Soapbar SE's in the first place was my love for P90 tones... yet i do not like taking my Townshend model SG out of the house... that one i hide away and baby... so this SE fits the bill for P90 sounds i can take to jams, basements, patio's , bars...

that being said sometimes single coils can get noisey in bars and on stages... if i have to have this axe for playing places i may mod it with a humbucker that fits a P90 route... but for now it stays stock...

the little toggle switch tip on mine has no treads left inside the plastic, all stripped... and the tip is smaller in size then stock gibson toggles..... so i found a black one that fits but it looks better with a cream one...

i've been wanting something in my collection set up with TV Jones PU's!!!! Was thinking one of those hollow bodied jazz style Godins... may be doing a 50's and 60's thing for classic car shows...

only issue i have with the hardware on mine is the plating seems to be coming off the bridge near the G String

Superglue is your friend. Carefully apply to the lost thread area inside the original switch cap. Allow to dry. Lubricate metal threads on switch. Metal should cut its own new thread in the glue/plastic.

ya i had that same idea to let the glue dry and then try it to cut new threads... also someone told me to just use a dab of silicone, it can be removed easily
