NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

Congrats, great choice. I currently have two schecter in my arsenal: a C1 loaded with jazz/full shred ( I swapped the A5 for ceramic one year ago) and a KM-6 (with the Keith Merrow customized black winter combo). They are both great guitars with a good quality/price ratio. They have a huge sound and are pretty versatile. I am a Les paul guy and I have never thought to buy a guitar so different in specs from a Les Paul. But I have to admit that schecter has done really a great job. I slightly prefer the KM-6. it fits perfectly my hands. I want to try an apocalypse. it looks gorgeous to me. And i think you have to give 85/81 a chance before swapping them.

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

I had a C-1 Platinum for a bit. Really cool guitar! Excellent build and finish work, as usual from Schecter.

Congrats!

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

At this moment I have no set-neck guitars; picking up one of these (or an Ibanez SZ720) is on my mind whenever I think about it. Had a cheap 'Omen 6' at one point, which was not a bad guitar by any means.

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

Yeah, the set-neck aspect was one of the things that influenced this purchase. The one with the Duncan HB-105's was a bolt-on. I'm not even sure how meaningful that is to anything. I just wanted it.

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

Yeah, I think so. My C-1 definitely is. The other one was virtually identical except for bolt-on neck and a Floyd. And the color and pups too. I guess that's like saying it was exactly the same except that everything was different. :smack:

Edit: I can't find the exact guitar on Schecters website, but it was basically this, with a Floyd: (The pic is a Demon-6.)

And, someone bought it. I went back to see it, and it was gone.

As far as the EMGs, was going to suggest an 18 volt mod, but you mentioned your other one having a small cavity.
It isnt a radical change, but seems to fill em out alil bit.

I had tried that, the 18v mod made them weak, not driving the amp hard enough, so distorted they sounded bland. I reverted the mod soon after.

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

Keep in mind that EMG's are VERY height sensitive. I had to muck about with my SA's for a LONG time before they came alive.

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

Cool. Thanks for that tip. Let me play them with a bit before I write them off.

Re: NGD: Schecter C-1 Platinum

Putting the 85 in the bridge will give you a thicker more organic tone. You'll also be going from a ceramic bridge pickup to and alnico V which also helps add some warmth.

I currently have a silver Platinum series Solo II that I have on order. It comes with a EMG 57/66 set.
