NGD! Schecter S-1 Custom

Ok, so I finally got over my apprehension about buying non-U.S. guitars. My stepdad happened to be selling his (barely used) Schecter S-1 Custom. I had been looking for a more affordable backup to my Les Paul Classic. I wanted something that wasn't exactly the same as my Gibson, yet not completely different at the same time. I'd say
Code:
this is perfect. Beside the fact that it actually manages to look way fancier than my LP, it also plays and sounds just as good. As much as I hate to admit it, this could very likely become my MAIN live guitar instead of the backup! OR, both could serve equally for subtle tonal differences, and in case of something going wrong with one of them, I have the other to save me from disaster, lol! Yes, sadly I only have these 2 guitars, but at least I'm very happy with both of them.

I love the features of the S-1 Custom. Double cutaway Les Paul Junior-esque mahogany body, flamed maple top, mahogany neck, smoooooth ebony fretboard with killer inlaysand creme binding, multi-ply headstock binding, gorgeous dark vintage sunburst finish, TonePros locking tune-o-matic bridge & tailpiece, Schecter locking tuners, Duncan (of course ;) ) '59 & Custom Custom humbuckers in chrome, 2 volum
Code:
es &1 tone with push/pull coil tap (super cool and useful).

Lighter than my LP, it feels like an SG in my hands, which is what I would have bought if it was in the budget. Maybe later, right? I can't believe the playability and tone of this thing. It's bright yet warm, but VERY tight. The bridge pickup is surprisingly percussive through my Maxon OD808 into my Marshall JCM900. Sounds very "early '90s Megadeth" if that makes sense. Haha. It can also pull off any classic hard rock riffs I can throw at it. Very unique, beautiful lead tone. Not sure if I'll leave the A2 mag in it though. I think an A8 would fit my more rhythm oriented playing style better.

All in all, VERY happy with this guitar. Schecter has made me a believer with this one.

Here are some pics. Check out the flame on this thing!

More pics. Sunburst finishes everywhere! And check out the cool little rubber grippy things on the knobbies! Hehe.

Really nice man, I dig the body shape.

Yeah, man! Me too! I was so hard-set on an SG that I almost let this little gem pass me by, just because it wasn't a Gibson. The looks, sound, and feel of this one are tough to beat though IMHO. It sounds and plays very much like some of the better SGs that I've tried.

Congratulations!! Schecters are great guitars, especially for their price.

Thanks, Jolly! I'm finally realizing that. My stepdad has been a Schecter dealer for years. I just never bought one from him until now. Heck, I'm even the one who encouraged him to try to get the dealership, but somewhere down the line I got all snobby about USA made guitars after I got my Les Paul. I'm glad I finally got past that mindset. People always buy his Schecters whenever he has 'em. He always calls me to come check them out when he gets a super cool one. He actually bought this one for himself (or would it be FROM himself? LOL) but he didn't like it! Crazy old man. Haha! No, I can see how this one might not have been his cup of tea, but I'm all about it!

By the way, does anyone know if this guitar has a solid maple top, or is it possible that it has a veneer top to make it more affordable?

Re: NGD! Schecter S-1 Custom

Not sure about the top Buty I have a C-1+ and I love it. Great score.

Yes sir! One of the great things also is the fact that I was able to get it for $500 instead of $699, since my stepdad bought it and then hardly used it. All it has are some hair-thin scratches on the back & some normal wear on the pickguard that I couldn't even get to show up on camera. Still looks mint other than that. :)

Great looking guitar man, I had a Schecter in the past, was a solid guitar, no complaints...

Re: NGD! Schecter S-1 Custom

Wow, dude. That thing IS hot. Its like a DC Les Paul, SG and a PRS got it on and made this hot piece of rock-on!
