NGD... Sort Of... Ideas Solicited.

Unfortunately, having waited an age for the luthier to do certain bits I don't have the confidence/tools for, I'd overlooked him surface mounting the neck and bridge (it's intended to be able to simply slide pickups in, and out under the strings for quick testing, so was preoccupied with that aspect), which has meant the bridge has sky high leverage. String tension is [predictably] pulling it over, so it all needs redoing, but I want to avoid damaging the new set of strings on it - can I likely get away with loosening them up enough to remove the bridge, taping them together etc, and be able to put it all back later? I'll need to detatch the neck too, so somewhat hoping I can keep neck/strings/bridge together, so any tips would be handy :)

If I understood correctly, you want to know if you can loosen the strings instead of removing them, correct?

If that is that is the case, the answer iss yes you can. I do it whenever I need, but do it carefully. You don‘t want to bend the strings, or breaking the ends or having them all tangled. I‘d advise to loosen the strings and put a capo around the 12th fret to prevent them from moving too much. In fact, I did that today 3-4 times while I was installing shims on the neck.

Good luck and let us know if you need anything else.

BTW, that is a nice test rig you‘ve got there.

Yeah, I don't want to squander a new set of strings in the process of detaching the neck, and removing the bridge. I've used masking tape in several places down the neck to hold the strings in place, but had i'd been on the ball, i'd have done that before removing the bridge, d'oh! The masking tape doesn't look likely to hold things for too long, so just hoping it'll do the trick long enough to get it all back to the Luther. Hadn't thought of using a capo!

Thanks, it's a fairly simple thing, but hoping it'll do the job :)
