NGD Squier Strat

Actually bought this guitar a couple weeks ago, but my Sis-in-law picked it up for me and I didn't get it in my hands until today. Paid 70 bucks, came with a cheap gig bag, strap, and a various Dunlop picks. I've been wanting a cheap Strat to play around with and this fit the bill. Squier Affinity Strat, made in Indonesia. Has a few scratches I'm gonna try to polish out. I'll restring and do a setup in the next week or so, the action is a little high and neck needs a little adjustment. But it's decent as is.

Trying to decide on pickups. For now I may throw a JB in that I have laying around. Long term I'm not sure If I want to stay HSS, or go with all single coils. Or possibly a HB sized P90 in the bridge. All my other Guitars are HH so I want something different with this one.

Re: NGD Squier Strat

70 with a bag is more than reasonable! Good score. Nice color.

I vote go with all single coils cuz for me, buckers make the bridge instantly useable but for me don't do much for the bridge+middle pickup combo which for me was one of the things that I like most about strats. I play clean a lot so I really notice the way most buckers, especially hot ones, change the bridge middle combo.
I always wire the tone control to affect the bridge pickup to make up for any ice pick/weak/thin sounds. Can add a tube screamer set to clean boost if the tone control cuts too much volume. Then you can just roll the tone back up if you need more volume and cut.
It all depends on what you like though! Strats are a great platform for whatever you wanna do.

That’s a good deal. Though I have “nicer” guitars, my Squier is one if my favorite guitars to play. It’s got a ‘59 in the bridge that sounds killer.

Squier guitars are awesome for the price and you get a real good guitar that you can mod if you desire and make it your own.;)

Made some changes this weekend. Dystrust was selling an SD Phat Cat in the trading post, and I've always wanted to try a P90 type pickup, So I decided to try it in this guitar. Also changed the pickguard out for a pearloid one I picked up from the stratosphere on Ebay. I know everybody doesn't like the pearloid, but I always have. I've just been playing around with it for a couple hours, but I'm really liking this pickup in this guitar.

I bet the Phat Cat sounds great in there. Between the A2 magnet and slightly hot winding, I'd expect a nice, full sound that still balances well with the neck and middle.

Re: NGD Squier Strat

We're working on a similar rebuild of a Squier Strat. We just discovered a 2009 Squier Strat (10 years old Sunburst) and not a single blemish anywhere! We've picked up CTS 250k pots and undecided on pickups. We're leaning heavily on a set of Antiquity Texas Hot. Can anyone drop some comments on these pickups, or suggest a diff SD pickup for a warm rich sound?

He is one of my Indonesian Squiers that I found for $50. It still had the plastic on the pickguard and appeared to have never been played. Not a scratch or blemish anywhere.
