NGD: Stinnett Custom (PRS killer, 56k beware)

I ordered this back in April from Will Stinnett after seeing some pictures of work he's done, and one 3D-rendering in particular:

11Large.jpg

The original specs I ordered included a 1pc mahogany body, maple neck, and a birdseye maple fretboard. Pictures of the blanks:

After seeing pictures of one of the guitars he finished in May...

...I knew I HAD to have a flame-maple top on mine. E-mailed Will right away, paid for a new body to be made, and waited some more!

Final Specs:

1pc Mahogany body
1/2" Flame maple top
Natural binding on body + headstock
3pc Maple neck (slightly figured)
Birdseye maple fretboard w/black binding
6100 frets and offset abalone dot inlays
Set-neck with long tenon
TonePros TOM + string-thru
Sperzel locking tuners
EMG 89/81TW set
Volume & 5-way switch (bridge, bridge split, bridge + neck split, neck split, neck)

I decided to go with an emerald green a la PRS finish, as it's my absolute favorite color, and it's a decently rare finish for guitars with a maple fretboard. I chose to go with a semi-gloss, hand-rubbed oil finish instead of a clear coat lacquer, though

Now that I have the axe... this thing is, hands down, the best guitar I have ever played. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is top notch, but it still has a very honest and human quality to it that I love. Organic and rich but incredibly clear (courtesy of the thick top and maple FB, no doubt!), tons of definition on chords and a nice meat + grind to palm mutes. It somehow has made my playing tighter and cleaner... couldn't ask for more in an axe!

I'll have to take some pictures tomorrow when there's light out; at the very least I'll try to do a video demo of it! In the meantime, here's the pictures Will snapped before shipping it out:

Is this his C6 Signature Model? His prices are pretty **** good for custom guitars and I love how the back of the guitar looks.

that is absolutely gorgeous. great score and my hat is off to the builder.

only thing you need to do now is get those EMGs out of there, lol.

Re: NGD: Stinnett Custom (PRS killer, 56k beware)

unbelievably sweet...

can't believe you put EMGs in it tho

Re: NGD: Stinnett Custom (PRS killer, 56k beware)

I'll jump on the bandwagon, and say the guitar is amazing, but I don't understand the EMGs. Lol, to each his own. I really like PRS style guitars with maple necks. That one is real good looking. Hope she sounds just as good.

+1

One these with a blue PRS style burst would awesome. :eyecrazy:

Absolutely stunning! It's like a PRS, but built for metal.

It's what became his C6 Sig, yeah - everything he does is CNC'd now, but mine was one of the first 4-5 done by hand (Serial #003!)

I paid just around his current price for the C6 Sig, despite having some options and the rare "flame top + oil finish" that required some extra work on his part that we didn't know about going in!

Funny you mention that... my next one will be a carved top M6 with a Schaller Hannes bridge, in Blue Matteo

I'll stop playing EMG's when Duncan gives me a passive that's tight, focused, and hot while still retaining a lot of organic qualities. For now, the 89 hits the spot perfectly. As is, Duncan doesn't make a pickup I like for anything but a "different flavor" - the Alt8 in my Schecter. Doesn't compete with the 89's in the Stinnett or ESP, though!

Re: NGD: Stinnett Custom (PRS killer, 56k beware)

That looks absolutely beautiful, one of the best looking guitars on this forum, hands down :)

As I was looking at the pics, I wondered why this bridge wasn't on your guitar in the first place ;).

His pricing is ridiculously good! If PRS made a guitar like this it would be something considerably over $5000, with which you'd get the 'heel from hell' and a bridge that cannot be intonated.

Is it a three piece neck like Hamer?

You better post pics of that dude. Mine is that color, and the blue really makes the masked binding pop on that style of guitar.

Funny thing is, if I had to pick my second favorite color, your guitar would be it.

Re: NGD: Stinnett Custom (PRS killer, 56k beware)

There's definitely something special about having a guitar built for you, with your specs. I can't wait to see your pics, upon delivery.

I've got a PRS in that dark green, and it's a beautiful guitar. Mine has a zebra C-5/59 set in it. There's some shades of green that really work well on a guitar, and I'm sure yours will be one of them. It's a color that works fine with rosewood, maple, zebra, nickel, and black. Green goes with all of them perfectly.
