NGD the '24' guitar

Yes, Jack Bauer himself worked with the Gibby CS to create perhaps IMO the koolest semi-hollow ever. The 336 body is made from a single piece of mahogany that is chambered, so sides and back are like a Les Paul body, only it's chambered with the middle intact. Put on a maple cap and it's like a semi-hollow LP...with Mickey Mouse ears. I traded away my black CS336 during my LP binge, I had regrets since, so after selling a lot of my stuff, I had enough to look for another, only I wanted the KS 336, yeah, the Kiefer model that everyone blasted since he wasn't a 'known' player....meh, he has a ton of Gibsons and knew what he liked...the aged gold finish, ebony neck, Super markers, ABS wire bridge and a nice comfy neck and frets. I posted wanted ads, even here, it is a HTF guitar, not sure how many were made, I have #44..I'm sure Jack has 24 :cool2:....luckily I had a response on TGP. I saw a new one here many years ago, the retail was 6K:eyecrazy: I got it at a fair price, the most I ever spent on a guitar..but as someone said here..life is too short to play crappy guitars..I agree. I liked the black trim on the guitar, but I'm a creme fanboy so i swapped and ditched the guard and black knobs....after this weeks gig, I have a set of BK Jimmy page pups waiting to drop in, but I wanna hear the 57's before I do....the greenish-gold color is hard to capture, it does look much better than my '01 goldtop...

Very nice indeed. I wondered where you'd find one when I saw you were looking for one in the Trader's Post. I figured everyone had them hidden away in their cases. Congratulations!!

Re: NGD the '24' guitar

Thanks guys...yeah, I lucked out..no fret wear either....I think these came out in '06? I may put the black rings back on...kinda had that Bonnamasa look...it's exactly 2 pounds lighter than my gold top...I like that.

Re: NGD the '24' guitar

It should have 24 frets...

and I almost NEVER say that...

obviously it is still ****ING awesome...

Re: NGD the '24' guitar

I don't think I've ever seen a goldtop semi-hollow... thats AWESOME!!!! Congrats man!!

Re: NGD the '24' guitar

wow that's hot... how come no one has done this before? With how good it looks it seems like a no brainer but this is the first I have seen it... (goldtop semi-hollow that is)

Re: NGD the '24' guitar

Thanks...I used the 336 last nite at my gig, 4 sets. I have to say, besides being a drop dead beauty, it is the easiest to play guitar I have ever owned. Everything seems to work like it was custom made for me. The neck shape, frets, action, the upper neck access, the way the guitar hangs...the neck is just a hair wider than my LP's and I hit tricky shapes with ease, the strings bend easier..I like to shake my chords sometimes. i feel this really is a Custom Shop masterpiece worthy of the price tag and will spoil me forever. I kinda feel sick that I have 3 killer LP's that I may never gig with again:eyecrazy:
The pups actually sound great, I'd like a tad more brightness, so I will do the 'mapleflame' mod (actually originated by murkat on TGP...who worked in the Gibson CS and made my 336! :cool2:) by replacing the bridge studs with stainless/longer studs. Although a PITA...I will swap the BK pups in and see if I can coax more tone outta this. I'm not afraid to put the stock pups back if I have too...I won't sell 'em like I've always done....hehe.
The tone....well, I've owned a CS336 and Epi Riviera and Casino...semi-hollows have their thing and actually work well for what we play..but having the LP ballsy tone was my fave and I made it work. The KS has this sweetened 'fuzz' on the gain channel that sounds heavenly....the cleans have this resonance that can only be had on a semi-hollow... I still hear some LP in there, there's cut and crunch...but everything sounds prettier...in a very good way...my face hurt from smiling so much :) I'm so close to having my perfect guitar...I'll report back after the mods...oh yeah, I put the black rings back on...it does look better on this gold. Also being 2 pounds lighter, it was a joy to play.

Re: NGD the '24' guitar

yeah cool guitar man! now im wishing my 335 was a gold top! lol
i reckon youull be even happier once you get rid of the gibson 57's (but make sure you keep them in case you ever decide to resell the axe).
While you are in rewiring mode...mi ght recommend some bourns pots an paper in oil caps. Well worth the extra time/cost/effort.

Re: NGD the '24' guitar

I love the look of goldtops, especially with semi-hollowbodies... great score! As much as everybody laughed at Kiefer for collaborating with Gibson on a "signature" model, I always thought it was a pretty slick guitar. Only thing I would have liked more is if it was a full ES 335 size, but everybody has their own taste. Play in good health!
