NGD the axis has landed

I haven’t had much time to mess with it only about half an hour. But so far I really like it. The neck is smooth as can be. The stainless frets will take some getting used to as they are more unforgiving. The color is hard to get to show up right. The whole body is a satin finish and wants to wash out. I will do a proper review when I’ve had a few days. The only thing I am not happy about is the high E is barely on the frets.
I will decide if that’s something I can live with or not. On an instrument this price I was kind of disappointed with that.

Re: NGD the axis has landed

Congrats.

What do you mean by the stainless frets being less "forgiving?"

It does indeed look like the bridge posts might have been placed incorrectly....by quite a lot. If so...unacceptable IMO. The dealer should have caught that and sent it back to MM before even offering it for sale. That said, your pix do appear to have been taken from an angle that would exaggerate the appearance of such in photos.

Look at that neck and finish! WOW But if it dont play right, gots to go. No excuse for that

Re: NGD the axis has landed

This neck drift gets mentioned on EBMM forums a lot (mostly due to shipping humidity and temp changes). Simple fix: loosen neck bolts slightly, pull neck so that E is where you want it, tighten up neck bolts WHILE MAINTAINING TENSION. Should pop right into place.

Re: NGD the axis has landed

I took most of the pics at an angle to cut out the glare. But the last close up pic is pretty much straight on. I’m going to try shifting the neck to see if that helps. Unforgiving may not be the best word for the frets. They tend to show my sloppiness some. But it’s nothing that I can’t get used to.

Re: NGD the axis has landed

Beautiful guitar, but yeah, if it doesn't play like you want I would send it back. As Vince said, it is most likely just a shifted neck but there is no excuse for a guitar of that caliber or $ going out like that.

Re: NGD the axis has landed

Call ebmm customer service on that first string alignment problem...they will take good care of you and the axe guaranteed...

Re: NGD the axis has landed

If there is an issue you can't fix, EBMM will fix it. That is one cool looking guitar!

NGD the axis has landed

That’s really sharp looking.

I bought an EBMM LIII a couple of years ago and the only thing with it is that I have to get accustomed to the narrower nut width on it every time I pick it up. It’s not drastic to my other guitars but enough to notice. Even with that, I keep thinking I should get another L model, maybe an earlier version with EMGs since I don’t have any actives in the stable right now.

I haven’t noticed a huge difference between nickel frets and stainless frets, I have both and I think the guitars with stainless frets get more play time, but they are they are also the ones I pieced together.

Yeah, I guess I should have been clearer, if it is new, take it back to where you got it for them or EBMM to make right. I love that color and the flame on that neck is sick, it would only be better if the fretboard was maple too! But I guess ebony is okay too :headbang:

Re: NGD the axis has landed

Thanks guys I’m going to reset the neck when I get home. I’ll give a full review in a few days. And try to get some better pics.

Re: NGD the axis has landed

That guitar looks stunning and I love the satin finish with that beautiful top. The back of the neck looks great also. I love the ebony fret board. Hopefully you can fix your problem.

Just saying, isnt this why EBMM uses 5 bolts to eliminate this?

Re: NGD the axis has landed

That´s a spectacular looking guitar.

Good luck with getting it sorted out quickly. Will be a spectacular playing guitar too once that´s sorted.

Re: NGD the axis has landed

Holy cow, that's gorgeous, man!

You made a solid choice with that finish! WOW!

As for "neck drift"...on a 5-bolt neck? What the hell?

I guess it might be worth a try to correct the neck if the guitar speaks to you, but I'd be in touch with the dealer/EBMM either way. You don't see people talking about fixing "neck drift" on $500 guitars. Not sure why it's an accepted "thing" on $2K+ guitars.

That is seriously gorgeous, though!

Re: NGD the axis has landed

it should be a one time fix. loosen the bolts, move the neck, tighten by holding it in place, done. if that isnt the case, send it back

Re: NGD the axis has landed

^ It should be a one time fix...that someone else does, not you. It's not that you can't do it. It's a matter of principle, and forcing the right people to do the right job in the chain. If you do this, everyone benefits in the end.

The way it's supposed to work is that the retailer gets it like that...and sends it back to EBMM. That puts the responsibility where it should be. It tells EBMM when they screw up. It forces them to change, because they actually PAY for their mistakes in shipping costs and labor costs. If you don't do this as a retailer, then manufacturing quality does not improve, plainly and simply.

The way most retailers work is that they accept the guitar like that anyhow. The problem then becomes their responsibility. Sure, maybe they fix it for you...but that does nothing to address the real problem, which is at the manufacturer. So the retailer pays for the fact that they didn't do what they were supposed to do in the first place (inspect and reject), and EBMM is none the wiser, and still sends $3,000 guitars out like this, because they pay no price for doing so.

What you should, in an ideal world, never see is a manufacturer having to deal with this issue via the player. The retailer should have been the one to force them to fix it.
