NGD: The Cadillac Ranch

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I have always been on the prowl for a Tiger Eye Cadillac, and I finally found one!

Cool/Sad story: I found this on Craig's List, and it looked good / good price, and included the case. when I met at the aforementioned spot, the woman and her escort explained that her husband had a few guitars, and that he had died, and she was getting rid of them. She had asked if I played and I explained that not only did I play, but that I had a band, and told her that odds were good I'd be playing on the outdoor stage where we met (Quaker Steak for local folk). She said her husband would have liked that, and thought the band was cool. I told her I'd let her know when we played out and she she could come out and I'd be sure to bring it and play a few songs with it.

Here is the current stable at the Cadillac Ranch:

In order of purchase:
#1 Cherry Sunburst w/ PGn/PG custom wound (by me at SDUG Day) 9k PG, taps on both pups
#2 Silverburst 2003 DOA model (#18 of 50) with an HB103n / JB8, taps on both pups
#3 White with PG/Custom
#4 Black 1980 model with DMT pickups
#5 Tiger eye with whatever came in it (I'm feeling a set of A2P's for this one)

Sweet. I am thinking of buying a Caddy for myself as a Christmas present, and the tiger eye looks lovely.

Congrats

Man I wish I had a pic of my old blueburst E’lite to show you. It was a pretty cool guitar for the time for sure

Nice!

I missed out on a red quilt Caddy many years ago. Not big on bright red guitars but this one looked too good in the photos. It would have been a sight unseen purchase, which I prefer not to do, but I hadn't seen a red quilt Caddy. I don't know if red quilt was ever a production color or maybe it was a prototype. Either way, I still remember that guitar. I think I passed because it was sight unseen and it was during the long period of time when I wasn't playing because of an injury.

I love tiger eye. Hate guitars with the strap button on the back of the neck joint however. The irony is, I.ve probably got at least half a dozen guitars with the buttons at the neck joint.

Original owner moved it to upper bout. I moved it back.

Also - I have a Dean Cadillac X in reserve as a project guitar. That's the cheap flat top bolt on neck version. I'm going Neon Green single pup with maybe a pink pickup in it or something like that.

Re: NGD: The Cadillac Ranch

Cool thing you’ve got going on with the Caddies, unique look but probably a pretty familiar sound. What’s the neck like on them? Chunky or slim?

Re: NGD: The Cadillac Ranch

Reminds me of the story of Bonomassa's ES-355. Good stuff. Go Whole Lotta in that thing.

Re: NGD: The Cadillac Ranch

they look like one arm aliens waving...Slaughter House Five sorta thing...

Re: NGD: The Cadillac Ranch

Congrats. A nice find. I've never owned or even played a Dean guitar, but my nephew who's a Dimebag Darrell fan owns a couple and really likes them. Plus he always found them on the secondary market used and has been able to pick them up relatively inexpensively. Enjoy it, it looks pretty cool.
