NGD: The Gibson ES-335 Has Landed!!

Holy Freakin Crap man!! I am blown away. This guitar is smokin. It plays like butter, has a great neck somewhere between a 60's and 50's neck, sounds unbelievable, is flamed like hell, looks absolutely fantastic, and resonates like you wouldn't believe. Just playing the guitar unplugged is amazing. When you sit down and play it unplugged you can just totally feel it resonating against your body. I've wanted a Gibson ES-335 since I was 18, and now I finally have one.:)

I got an unbelievable deal on this guitar. The price on it was $1850 because the guy said it had a few scratches and stuff just in the clearcoat on the back of it. It has that and a tad bit of worming to it, but you can't even see any of it unless you hold it at an angle and have your face about 3 inches from it. The guy also said it was a 2002 model, but I guess that was a typo. It's a 2003 model.

This would easily be a $3200 guitar if it was brand new. I can't say as I've really seen many others like this because of it's color and gold hardware.

Here's the kicker though as far as me getting a great deal on it. I traded the guy my Gretsch Tennessee Rose for it and $850. The guy gave me $1000 for my Tennessee Rose. However, now dig this. I only paid $800 for that Tennessee Rose brand new. I bought it 4 years ago when Musicians Friend was blowing them out for $999. At the time they had some type of 20% off thing if you spent more than a grand. I remember talking to the guy on the phone and he couldn't find what I was talking about, so he just went ahead and gave me the 20% off. The kicker was a day later I was on Musicians Friend looking at the 20% off deal and it said Gretsch's were one of the brands not included in the deal...LMAO!!

So basically I got this guitar for $1650.

Here's some pics from where I got it and then some pics I took today. Of course the pics I took are crappy as usual with my cell phone. The guitar is a much much more vibrant red than the pics he took. It's really almost a blood red, but not quite.

Thanks everyone. I'm digging it. I've pretty much been playing it since I unboxed it yesterday and have been home. I don't know what guitar Clapton played on the song in the studio, but the first thing I played on the 335 was the solo to Sunshine of Your Love.:)

It sure did suck yesterday. I got the guitar around 10:30 or so yesterday morning and had to sit around and wait a few hours before I could open it up because of the cold. I sat on the couch just staring at the box like a pet stares at you when you're eating. I would get on the computer and look at the pics of it from where I bought it, and was like "damn, I got that guitar right there sitting 20 feet from me right now and I can't even play it".

Very nice!

Gold hardware on 335's is a special orde...stock on 45's and 55's but custom order on 35's.

Very nice indeed!
Cool man. I didn't know that. I guess that explains why I haven't seen many 335's with gold hardware.

After reading what you just wrote, I sent Gibson an email with the serial number and everything just to see what they could tell me about the guitar. There's no telling if they'll get back to me though...lol
