The McCarty is also my favorite PRS model. I like the McCarty and Singlecut because they did away with some of Mr. Smith's less favorable design ideas, and replaced them with a more Gibson-like look and feel.

I have two I love a lot. One has 50th Ann. Seth Lovers that sound great in it, although I lost the ability to split the coils. The other has a zebra C5/59, which is good, but I may go with a WLH set or bridge. The C/59 Hybrid may also sound good in the bridge.

Ted McCarty was a heck of a guy, just like Leo, Seymour, Jol Dantzig, Jim Marshall etc.

Still waiting for my gold covered WLH set to arrive, but then they're going into the CU22. May as well get the 'Bonamassa' set into the Tokai at the same time.

Probably a lot less than if I'd bought them in the UK. They came from California, though to be fair, the tax man did have something of a nibble as they landed this side of the pond.

Nice one Chris. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on how the tone of your PRS changes with the WLH set. I just got done taking a crack at my WLH set with a cranked amp and I just love them. My McCarty now sounds as good as it plays and looks. I bet your Custom 22 will leave you with a similar impression.

Now that I've owned a few PRSi from before the 57/08 era, if I ever get more PRS guitars with the older pickups I would just rip them out by default. They're not bad per se, but Duncans are much better to my ears. I've little experience with the newer pickups though, I've heard those are much better.

I found that the original McCarty pickups were actually very nice, but there was just 'more' of everything with the WLHs. Clearer, with enough bite when you dig in, and the split tones are fantastic. No mud in the neck position, in fact I've never used the neck pickup so much!

I agree, the WLH split tones are phenomenal. Probably the best split humbucker tones I've ever experienced.

I too didn't dislike the stock pickups, I just enjoy the WLHs much much more.
