NGD/UGD

I went pawn shop hopping over the weekend. I've not had much success in the past, everything decent is usually priced near retail. Well one of the shops I visited strangly had no guitars on display. When I asked the shop keeper, he said that the wall mounted rack had fallen, and ALL of the guitars sustained damage. But he offered to show me a few that were still playable.

The very first guitar the guy pulls out is this beauty. As you can see, it has a nice chip on the front. But that's the only real damage. Because of that, I was able to take it home for a couple Benjamins.

I've had a crush on PRS for a while (like a decade plus), but never had a good opportunity til now. And I happen to be a big fan of Opeth so that's a plus. New strings, reset the knife edge trem, a quick action adjustment, tossed a JB in there, and it plays magnificently!

Wow, I never saw that model before! And you don't have to baby it now! Congrats on the awesome new guitar day (with a great story).

Re: NGD/UGD

The neck is super chunky. Apperantly Akerfeldt wanted it to have a Strat feel. Still trying to get used to it.

CONGRATS ON ANOTHER THIEVERY!! I don't know if you're into touch ups, but I touched fretboard filing it. I've got wood floors = Old English lemon; dark antinque furninture = Old English Touch Up. I mixed the two and fixed my boo-boo, but I'm sure there are more shades in ScrewValu. You can do a lot with just two.
That IS an owie.

Re: NGD/UGD

I've considered a touch up. I want to get pretty close on the color if I do. The finish is the thicker variety so I'd have to find a way to fill in the damaged spot and bring it level with the original surface once I color the wood. For now I'm content throwing some tape over it so it doesn't scratch my forearm while playing.

Re: NGD/UGD

I picked up a Tremonti SE yesterday, and I was blown away by the differences. The Akerfeldt felt substantially heavier, every part of the guitar was meatier than the Tremonti. Tone was also fat and chunky and had way more life than the Tremonti. It really doesn't feel like an SE, it's definitely a high quality instrument.

Saw on YT a nut repair using Loctite and baking soda. Number one is always mix glue with a little water. I've read that before. Anyway, nut job was for filler, too. So, put the lime in the coconut and grab something (sorry, I blinked then) and apply. Sand after 24. I guess throw a straight edge on it b4 sanding, during, after. And I'm the one fixed tiny fret gouge w/Old English Touch up. I put half a drop on my finger after mixing correct shade. All will be well, my son.

I've used that on my nuts several times. My guitar's nuts, just to clarify. It's a nifty trick, never thought of repairing the body damage that way.
