Yesterday I took a little drive to get away from all the WVU football traffic and ended up in Uniontown, PA. where I hit a few thrift stores and hiked around a little.
The last stop I made was the music store I got my first good guitar ('61 Melody Maker) back in 1970. The owner's son runs it now, and has a huge stock of new Fenders, Gretsch, etc.. I checked out the used room, and found an old Electra sorta-Paul marked at $40.00--glopped over with black paint, mismatched knobs, but whoever had it hadn't messed with the neck, which felt pretty good.
I pulled the control cover to make sure it wasn't plywood, then wrote the guy a check.
Got home and did some quick fixes to get it functional enough to plug in--turns out to be decent, although HBs on an ash body is a bit different sound. Here's a pic from the Electra site, it started out as an X290.
