This beastie rivals Gibsons easily, and coming stock with Duncans is a major plus!

...close, they surpass Gibson.

Thats total B.S.

I'm a Gibson enthusiast and player (own three, have owned many more), and even I will say some of the Hamer USA stuff far exceeds the Standards and other lower American stuff Gibson is putting out. Some of Hamer's better stuff can keep up with the best of Gibson as well. At least what I've played.

Re: NGD! USA Hamer, what a beautiful player! Can't believe I have never tried one bef

I would say the same. I have played Standard USA Gibson fare, and they are really good, but I find the neck edges to be sharp often, and finish to be gummy as if not properly cured. Now comparing upper line stuff, I couldn't say. I will say this is the best guitar I have ever owned.

The Seth Lovers are a perfect match for the guitar and the great variegated types of music I play. The LP Studio I have will be right along with it I am sure, but this motivates me also to make my cheaper guitars better. Of course. In all that, I need to play more. And great guitars inspire me to play.

You should take the time to read about how Hamer makes their guitars on their web page. They take a lot more time with each guitar and do much, much more hand work on their guitars than Gibson does on everything except the Historic/Custom shop stuff.

I am a huge fan of Gibson Les Pauls, but Hamer essentially makes a handbuilt guitar for an MSRP less than that of a LP Standard. They are very fine instruments and I can see them sounding just as good if not better than some of the LP Standards.

A few years back, i was getting money organised to buy a Les Paul. While I was working to get the money together, i did a lot of research. Down here in Australia, there were no USA Hamers available and the word with Gibsons was "make sure you play a whole bunch to find a good one". For the prices we pay for them down here. that didn't fill me with confidence, and i only had one chance to get it right. I read a lot of interviews with Jol Danzig, and material on Hamer in general.

I can't link you to the exact articles, and i think some that were on the Hamer site are now gone, but from memory, here are some things i read.....

When Kaman bought Hamer, they financed Hamer to be able to have first choice on the best woods (Hamer uses Honduras mahogany, Gibson doesn't).

Hamer were able to obtain the best drying eqipment for their woods.

Hamer were able to afford to store neck blanks for six months before they were shaped, allowing the wood to settle and find it's own stable shape before the final shaping was done.

I read several times of Joel Danzig demonstrating the quality of the neck/body join at various presentations, by holding up a neck and body just pressed together, no glue in the join.

These are just a few things i remember, but they are important. The best woods, properly dried, and allowed to settle before being finally shaped into guitars. Because Hamer's output is much smaller than Gibsons, more time is spent per instrument and the result shows. Unfortunately i haven't touched any other USA Hamer except the one I own, but i fully exect that they would all be built to the same incredible standards as mine.

Thats total B.S.

Read a bit about them and then play a few US Hamers. I have owned a few over the years and still have my #1 from 1989, they surpass Gibson....that is from experience, not "internet intelligence".

Nice score! I've owned a couple...the Seths sound like a great pup for that!

At a Hamer tour in October 2004 I seen Jol take a Korina Standard body that was in production and fit the neck in the joint unglued, hold it up, and shake it while he explained how exact they make them. :eek5: Jol has left the building, Fender's parent company owns them now, and the production of great stuff continues. Check out the workshop blog.

Edited to ask: Trevorus, did you try any of the card settings and what year is that please?

Hey Trevis...I'm very happy you like the Hamer so much.. makes me feel good. I owned that guitar for around 5 years, probably the best built and most beautiful guitar I have ever owned. However, I just could not bond with it. I knew it was a very good guitar and that someone, somewhere would love it. Just wasn't going to be me. I even thought about changing pups...but never did. So I am happy for you and very very happy that you like it so well. Enjoy it my friend!!!

That's a very cool sentiment and I applaud it....but still, next time you're having trouble bonding with a guitar that beautiful how's about sending it over this way, huh? I'll even pay for shipping. Just to help you out, you understand. :bling:

Btw, I think this one is a 2005. It's in like new shape! Loving it!

Re: NGD! USA Hamer, what a beautiful player! Can't believe I have never tried one bef

Very Cool. My Mini Standard is a 2005. It is 553*** Duncan Distorton bridge and Pearly Gates neck in this lil Rocket launcher. :32:

So if yours is in the 53000 range with a 5 as the first digit it is an '05. Check the tonecard on page 1 if you haven't. :cool2:
