NGD -(Used) Gibson SG Melody Maker

Wonker

New member
I just got home and opened it up. I bought it used from MF and I can't tell that it has been used at all. It is in better shape than a lot of new guitars I've seen in stores.

I haven't plugged it in yet. I have some homework I have to take care of tonight. Plus it needs a setup, so I'll have a better review by this weekend.

dig the white finish and full-sized guard. IMO a chrome cover on that bucker would look really nice.

THIS! This is what RAWK OUT with your CAWK OUT is all about!

No bells, no wislts, no flame to hide behind. Just a pure and stone simple ROCK MACHINE.

You better put it out there because there is nothing to hide behind or blame.

I LOVE IT!

ps - leave that TonePros crap off of there!!!!!

Whats wrong with the tonepros bridge?

I ask this as an openminded hobbiest and smart consumer. If I made a bad choice I'm open to opinion and other options. I just need to know before I open it.

Damn you ... DAMN GAS

I was freeeeeee ....

One of these full black, the tonepros bridge in black, black sperzels, Dimebucker with a push/pull for series parallel.

Damn ...

Re: NGD -(Used) Gibson SG Melody Maker

The intonation will be just fine with the standard wrap bridge. Close enough for rock & roll! Just choke a little bit or throw a little english on it if you need to.

Re: NGD -(Used) Gibson SG Melody Maker

i think the Tonepros bridge is like Viagra; when you Rock OWYCO, you will be able to ROWYCO longer without puttin your fingers on the pegs as long as youre careful where bending is concerned because theres less contact so you control the tenseness better.
But i could see how some like to watch wouldnt appreciate the feel: sometimes when things are out of place, you dont get off as much.
Its a great ax, but most importantly, its your axe to mess with.

Another way to look at it: its like putting a penis in a vagina, if you catch the innuendo.

Congratulations!! That white and black look great together.

I personally don't see any need for the TonePros either. What is on that SG looks just like the same wrap around bridges that are on my SG Jr's and I've never had any problems with them. They're both intonated just fine.

Mr. Jolly do your Jr's have the flat style or the compensated style wraparound bridge?

You've got the straight tailpiece-as-a-bridge on that SG there. Put the TonePros on. It'll intonate better and you'll be glad you did.

The TP is fine, I like the Wilkinsons but big ****ing deal, ROCK IT

Re: NGD -(Used) Gibson SG Melody Maker

Just got home and done eating. Doing my setup right now should be done and have an update in about 45 minutes.

If there's nothing to hide behind, why would you want bad intonation throwing you off?

Logic loop - engage
Most guitars have more intonation problems elsewhere than a bridge can fix anyway, that's why. Though it doesn't apply to some Gibsons because their design is different, I'd say 80%-90% of new guitars I see have serious intonation problems at the nut, most often on the big E.

Plus other faults.

Re: NGD -(Used) Gibson SG Melody Maker

I sent it back today. It had an issue that I just couldn’t massage out of it. I couldn't get the action as low as I'd normally like it at. Plus it was a lot heavier than I was looking for. It had a full size SG body shape which I wasn’t expecting ( But wasn't a bad thing ) for a MM model. It was also made out of maple not mahogany.

So it was ergonomics and weight issue not a quality/manufacturing issue. Don’t need to give the Gibson bashers any fuel.
