NGD: Worst Budget Shopper Ever Edition

A lot of you might remember my $600+/- beater guitar thread. Well. I tried. I went to a few different music stores with good intentions. Looked at the guitars in my price range. But as I somehow almost always do, I ended up playing the guitars I wanted instead of the guitars I could afford.

Anyway an employee got an Explorer Pro for me to try. Loved the feel of the thing. Thought, "Man, this guitar feels amazing." Asked to try a PRS CE24 I had seen a couple weeks before. It blew the Explorer Pro out of the water (and was a few hundred less).

Stays in tune like nothing I've owned before, lightweight, is extremely versatile with a 5 way rotary switch. The previous owner didn't seem too concerned with keeping it pristine, so neither am I!

Pictures! 2000 PRS CE24

Also, it REALLY didn't hurt that this was my dream guitar when I was just starting out playing.

That right there (with a different color) was my main guitar for everything from gigs, to studio, to lounging, for about 2 years. Great, great instruments.

Congrats, and play her in good health!

Nice finish and top. Those models play like a worn in old pair of jeans.

Thanks! It really does feel worn in. I've never really picked up a guitar before and knew it was supposed to be mine, so this was pretty awesome. Just needs a trem bar and a little cleaning and it'll be good to go

I remember that guitar! One of the prettiest finishes I've seen on a PRS! Didn't realize it was the same model though. I really an blown away by this guitar. Which is good since I'm kind of financing it right now haha

Oh, and forgot to mention that the back of the neck is sticky as all hell. I'm guessing (from looking at the rest of the guitar) that this guitar hadn't really been cleaned in it's 11 year life. Any recommendations on fixing that? I was going to take some very fine sandpaper to it but figure I should ask first.

IMO, first start with the Dunlop cleaning kit. It has maybe 4 bottles of stuff, fron fretboard cleaner, conditioner, body polish, wax, sting cleaner. Soak the guitar in that stuff first and clean it before considering some sandpaper.

The reason I say resist using sandpaper is the guitars I gave with unfinished or oiled necks require much more adjustments- any time I look at them they need a truss rod adjustment. My finished necks need an adjustment possibly twice a year, if even that

Before you take sandpaper to it, try a Scotch Brite scour pad. You can find them at Lowe's or Home Depot. I used one on my strat's neck after I sprayed the nitro as it was pretty sticky, and it did the trick.

Yeah man, only difference between yours and the one I had, is I had the 3 way toggle. They really are, in my opinion, the coolest PRS guitars. They have their own tone, but will get you from Sg territory, to some LP growl, to some really glassy Strat tones. It's a live monster. The one I had just sustained for ages.

As for the neck getting sticky, I would also just start with a cleaner. I used Gibson cleaner on mine, because the neck was nitro finished, not acrylic or what ever they use on some models. I wouldn't sand it or rub on it to much yet. A good cleaning, and a little bit of playing and getting use to your body chemistry should be just fine for it.

Again, congrats.

very nice guitar! looks like a singlepiece top! am I right?

ps: did you get it for around 600$?! or did I miss something?

Re: NGD: Worst Budget Shopper Ever Edition

I dont know anything much about PRSs, but I know I want that. :)

Is it a bolt on (the pics say it is, but I expected it to be a set or even thru neck). And is it a USA model?

Re: NGD: Worst Budget Shopper Ever Edition

This thread reminded me to get my modified PRS EG II out of its case. HFS/Artist/Artist humbuckers, no coil spiltting faggotry, surprisingly good "Stratty" tones. Gibson metal top knobs. Looks like a Hamer. :D
