NGD

Took her apart. Wanted to see what I could fit in the body cavity. The neck cavity was a hair to small for a humbucker, so I took a hammer and a utility knife blade and cut out the top 2 ribs, then sanded the excess down. Not a bad job if I do say so myself. As you can see, the shielded paint doesn't cover the hole cavity.. guess I'll fix that while I got her apart too.

Now to figure out what I want it her while it's apart

Re: NGD

nice guitar man! does it sustain? does it have low end?

I was a little skeptic of this model, which is why I didn't jump on it until finding one to actually play. The quality is very good. Sustains nicely... the low end I'm not sure of. I had heard good things about the MP pickups, but to me they sounded rather weak and thin.. the only decent one of the three was the humbucker, but it wasn't anything to really write home about. fairly disappointing but that's just me.

But all in all, even if I had pulled the trigger and bought this new, $400 vs $1700 for the American Deluxe version is a no brainer really... with this the sky's the limit on what you can do to make it your own.

Re: NGD

Dont know how well it'll show up, but I decided to work on the neck a tad while I have it apart. Took 400 grit sand paper to the extremely glossy finish on the neck. Gave it a silky smooth satiny feel. I'm hoping to get it back together this week sometime, and see if that helps me any.

Got it all back together this evening. Went with the Jb/Jazz for the time being, since that's what's in my number one. That way I can compare the two. Gotta say, I think I'm glad I Doc's advise and not grab a new neck just yet. After taking the sandpaper to the neck ( 4 or 5 times ) I like the feel of it now. Maybe it was just the gloss throwing me off.

Think I'm gonna leave it like this for little while, continue the researching and asking, to see what I want to do pickup wise in the future. Got band practice tomorrow, so I'll be able to compare the two on the Blackstar.

Re: NGD

Take all of that crap off the neck and sand it to 800 or 1000 grit and tung oil it you will be really happy with it. My Strat was second guitar I did that to and it was so easy and a million times better.
