Headstock is standard size

I'd kind of feel like I'm desecrating the guitar haha

Re: NGD

I liked my 57s for a while and they still sound great for blues but for moderate gain they get really muddy really quick.
Pickups are an easy swap, that is a beautiful Les Paul!

Actually, I'm feeling what you mean. It's a big ROUND sound...

Might need something a little more focused.

Re: NGD

Not desecrating bro, helping it reach its full potential! If it was a real 59 and you were talking about putting a lime green X2N in the bridge... Well.. But you will just be helping to make it irresistible..

Obviously '57's work in some guitars, but of all the PAF's I've owned over the years, they're the worst-sounding PAF to my ears. A guitar as beautiful as that may deserve a top notch set to reach it's full potential. It's a decision only you can make.

I used to own the humbucker antiquity set.

I see that thw WLH set is made out to be a more "balanced" and less "muddy" set. I've read about it "cleaning" tones because of it's distinctive sound.

the problem there is that I play an ac30 amplifier. I'm worried the sound will be too thin.

the antiquity set DOES look great.

I'm not really looing for a firebreathing pickup, but it has to be able to hang when I need it to. What would you recommend? (all you guys)

Yesterday I recorded with the Paul for the first time.

The tone is amazing. I asked for a rough mix to be put together so you guys can hear it.

I have been finding it a little hard to dial in though, it's much much louder than anything my Vox has amplified.

Re: NGD

I think that it looks better without the pickguard.

It looks a little more orange in the photos than it does in person, in person my guitar is much more of a (duh!) honey colour.

It might sound dumb, but I think there's something oer 80s rock about not having a pickuard. I think I may put it on and off according to the gig.

If it's a classier thing, pickguard on. If I'm playing a motorcycle club bar, pickguard off.

edit- Jolly, I liked your post because of the picture of your cat flying with a cape.

Re: NGD

Seths man, Seths….

Or Pearlies.

You know, I'm actually wondering about that. Here's the thing:

I don't want to give up the Heartbreaker or Detroit Rock City tones, no matter what. It's the reason why I chose this guitar. I do also enjoy tones like Welcome To The Jungle, but am more inclined to classic tones such as those heard on Cream records for example.

The thing is that there are so many PAF variants that I really don't know what to pick.

Re: NGD

I will say one thing: I noticed that most of our 60s and 70s rock gods didn't think that they could adjust the polepieces on their guitars.

They're usually right in the cover, not out and about like on a stratocaster pickup. I screwed the polepieces so that they are mostly inside the cover (just the top is out of the cover)

this really changed the tone. More of a mean clapton woman sound than just a generic humbucker sound.

Re: NGD

Very nice bro! Welcome to the Trad Club!

I have a '14 Trad, so I have the 59 Tribute pickups instead of the 57 Classics; great for ZZ Top-style dirty blues and classic rock.

FWIW, if I was going to change them I'd go WLH.

Re: NGD

That color is very Jimmy Page. If/when you decide the 57's need to go, id go for the WLH set.
Is the headstock bigger? It looks bigger

It does look very similar to my JP model. I have a Brobucker/ PGn A4 floor shop neck and it rocks. I do sometimes think about a WLH set but I can't. Bring myself to change the current set out.
