NGGD-New Gifted guitar day.. haha

Sorry, alittle long winded, but want to lay foundation.. As many of you may know, Ive tried to encourage my kids to play instruments. (particularly guitar hee hee). My oldest daughter wasnt really interested in making music. I got my Son an electric and he never really took to it. (Football and weight lifting). My third child (Girl) is very gifted and picked up piano and guitar . I showed her cowboy chords and gave her some charts and she surpassed me quick. So I got her a nice slightly over entry level Breedlove accoustic. Next Daughter, seemed more interested in Bass, so got her a cool Daisy rock bass. She never got into it.
My baby girl was very interested in guitar, so I got her a parlor sized Aria accou a few years ago that Evan posted a SDOD heads up on, since she was small. Again, showed her some cowboy chords and gave her some chord charts and away she went. Even played it at school and such. Any how, her capo came up missing, so I told her Id get her a new one. We were out one day and stopped at local shop. Picked out the capo and I asked her if she wanted to look around. OK! She beelined over to the accoustics and started drooling..(Dad was drooling over at the electrics...) Any how they carry fender, Ibanez and Seagull. She was looking at a couple of the Seagulls. I asked her if she wanted to try one? Am I allowed?? (Maiden voyage to guitar store..) I said yes, just let me help you and be careful.. She tried one and lit up. Then she tried a different one and just beamed. She liked the big tone of the full body and all and this guitar just really hit home with her. I said you like that?? Im in love.... she says.. (Dads ok with her falling in love with a guitar...) Anyhow, she was totally taken with this one. Asked if she could sell her other to put toward it, etc..

Well, alittle back story... She has had some issues lately and doing some bad things and during that time, she sold her very nice keyboard and bench to support those bad things and she lost all her joy and all her desire for music etc. So she has been in rehab for 3 months and recently got out. Since being out, she has been playing guitar and singing again.. (happy daddy this makes...)
So, as incentive to stay on track and since her first guitar was small and basic, I wanted to upgrade her. I couldnt afford the new one at $700 so I found a mint used one of the same model, same year 2015 on ebay at half the price. I used the paypal credit I was gonna buy my next toy with and got it for her.

Arrived yesterday.. UPS left it outside so I ran home on my lunch.. She had brought it in the house and hid it in the spare bedroom.. (She figured it was for me... haha) When I got home, I opened the end of the big box and told her I really needed her to help me pull the inner box out. She did. She happened to see a sticker on the inner box that said Seagull and lit up like a Christmas tree. Needless to say, she loves her new baby... Seagulls are really nice axes.

I told her its cuz Im proud of her progress, THRILLED to hear her making music again, and if she starts using again, I will take it as Im not having her sell it for contraband...

Anyhow, Sorry for the long read, thanks for hanging in there. As much as I love getting new gear for myself, there is joy in giving it too...

Dont any pics of her guitar, but this is what she has:

Seagull Performer. Has solid spruce top, beautiful flame sides, back and headstock over lay, rosewood board and bridge, tusq nut and saddle and Quantum I electronics.

Being used, it didnt come with the gig bag, (no biggie) but it had recently been set up and restrung. Nicer action then one in the store..

Anyhow, thanks for reading!

Happy ending so far. She has been out for 2 weeks. So far no smoking, no meth, molly, etc. So hoping she stays on track. Yeah, in lake city.

Terrific story man. I'm glad things are working out and I'm glad you're happy about it.

Tell your girl we're rooting for her, man!

Yikes, I'd have some after making a deal like that. Weed comes and goes, guitars are friends for life.

So so very happy to hear about your baby and her baby man.

And I agree, as much fun as it is to be giving gifts to yourself, it's a whole other deal to do it for your loved ones :)

Tell her that the guys here wished her to enjoy it in good health (and state of mind) and a very Happy New Guitar Day :headbang:

Re: NGGD-New Gifted guitar day.. haha

I'm with all the sentiments expressed here. Let's hope it helps everyone in every direction. Music is a better escape/ friend / home than substances, and a much better addiction, a positive one. Well done all around.

Re: NGGD-New Gifted guitar day.. haha

Glad to hear she is doing well! Hopefully she latches back on to music and helps her get through the rest of the process (which unfortunately, is life long!)

Seagull's are incredible guitars, especially for the money. Canadian made too which makes me happy.

Re: NGGD-New Gifted guitar day.. haha

Thank you for all the well wishes for my Daughter fellas! Much appreciated! Was a VERY sad and dark period watching her do that to herself. And tho I never stopped loving her , I did not like what she had become and that was hard. But seeing her smile again and look healthy again...Is priceless.. I lost alot of sleep and was spending every waking minute either trying to find a facility for her (see extra note **), hunting her down, or up worrying.. Now there is still alot of tension, scared of relapse, but not so much.

** I wont go on too much of a tangent, but OMG... The mental health system is whack and trying to get something done within that system could almost drive one to need the services.. I called probably EVERY facility in eastern half of the US. Even some out west. (some of the ranch programs and such.) Most dont participate with my insurance and they want upwards of $10-30 THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH (NOT KIDDING!!!); most are Voluntary, (a 16 yr old that isnt thinking rationally isnt going to agree to go...) ; and most dont work with Dual diagnosis. Its either straight mental health or straight substance abuse. She suffers from depression and had substance issues.

Anyhow, found a wonderful place, my baby is better and she is playing guitar again! Hopefully Dad will have more time to play too!!

Thanks again for the well wishes! Ill try to borrow the guitar for a photo shoot. haha Ive never been a fan of Maple backed guitars, but this one is flame, so its nice looking.

I'm glad you found a place and your daughter was willing to go, I wasn't that fortunate with my wife. The Dual Diagnosis issue makes it extremely difficult.

Re: NGGD-New Gifted guitar day.. haha

Sorry to hear that Chadd... Yes, the Dual diag is EXTREMELY difficult. And believe me, she was NOT willing to go. Thats why none of the "voluntary" places would work. I had to get a court order to make her go. Was rehab or jail..
