NGw? idk got my first EMG guitar

so ive been gassing for active pickups (specifically EMGs) for about.... 3? 5? idk a couple years and i finally got a set... sorta. i was/am way to lazy/cheap to buy and install the solderless system in any of my guitars that i have here that i rewired so i found one on reverb WITH EMGs already installed its a nice purple esp ltd mh100qmnt with an 81/85 set.

Re: NGw? idk got my first EMG guitar

Sure, lots of guys like the 85 in the bridge because it has an A5 mag as opposed to the 81 which has a ceramic. If it were me, Id opt for the 60A (alnico mag) for the neck if you go 85 bridge because it may blend better and be more of what youre familiar with (sort of).

You could also add an EMG SPC, or an EXG pot which will add even more clarity and give you more tonal options.

thanks i may try swaping the neck and bridge next time i get around to a string change. honestly having never played them before i couldnt understand the hate for emgs but now i get it. i mean i dont hate them but they feel completely different than my Duncans or DiMarzios. its like it lacks subtlety or something hard to put my finger on but i kinda get it. im not going to get rid of them or replace all my pickups with them but its nice for a change of pace everynow and again.

Its an 81/85 now? The 85bridge/81neck is a good combo as well.

well it came with and 81 bridge and 85 neck but i may swap the 85 for a 60 (i like metallica more than slayer) but when ever i change the strings i may try puting the 81 in the neck instead for science and ****s and giggles

Re: NGw? idk got my first EMG guitar

The 85/81 is obviously an easy swap for you and very popular among the 12 other guys on the internet who still use EMG's haha! Not much love for them, but I always liked them. However lately Ive been swapping back to passives, but ill always keep a few with actives because some stuff I play requires it and passives dont quite do it, and likewise with passives.

One more thing real quick, remember to unplug your cable from your guitar because when its in it activates the battery which will drain it down in short order if you keep forgetting. They say the battery life is 3,000hrs which is a long time. In fact some of my guitars had batteries that were in there atleast 5yrs or more so start off with a fresh one and youll be good for a while.

didnt know they last that long lol i was worried because the battery placement seemed abit annoying but then again im used to pedals.

Re: NGw? idk got my first EMG guitar

Nice guitar. Enjoy.
EMG's some really like them some don't. It took me a while to get used to them. I had two guitars with them. I'm down to one. I find they are really good for a certain style/sound but can be hard to dial in for some other situations. I'm not sure if this is the right way to describe them but I find them to exact, almost laser beam like.

i could see that i thought of them more like a sledge hammer i guess like not exact enough for like clean stuff but perfectly heavy and hard hitting enough for metal/rock
