WoW...i was really impressed with this...talk about a G.A.S. builder!
The Hamer Shop Tour
they sure are nice guitars!

does anyone know of any other sites that have something like this...?

Re: Nice tour...

I'm convinced that Hamers are the best quality guitars money can buy. If you ever get the chance, they have an open house every October at their factory in Connecticut where they show off their facility and some of the stuff they can do.

SWEET!!! That sounds like good times!?

they are wonderful guitars...

the local shop i do business with carries them...i play on one every now and then...but they're still a little pricey new...not gibson pricey by any means, but i'd probably have to go used...i love the monaco!!!

Re: Nice tour...

They are pricey if purchased new, but if you're willing to go the used route, you can get a really nice one at a good price. I got mine for half of what a used LP would cost.

They are superb guitars as I keep telling everyone. Which Monaco are you thinking of - Superpro, the Elite, The Monaco 3?? - quite a few to choose from but one thing you can be assured of is that they are quality guitars all the way and it is very, very rare that you will find a bad one.

Stick with the US Hamers as these already come pre-loaded with Seymour Duncan pups in them. I would seriously consider getting a Studio ('59b &
'59n pups) or even an Artist Custom (Seth Lover pups).

BTW what Ryan says is perfectly correct Hamer throws its doors open every October for a full open house and its a great time as all the lunatics from the Hamer forum get together for wild jams and partying - the last one was a couple of weks ago.

Re: Nice tour...

The guy I bought a Mesa Blue Angel amp off of had a Newport Pro....absolutely beautiful !
If and when I get another guitar, this will be the one:

Are there certain years or certain models to stay away from or are most of the USAs pretty reliable are far as Q.C. goes???
PUCK,
one thing to be aware of if you look at used Studios, is that the neck profile changed sometime in the mid 90's, to a somewhat wider, flatter neck.(which I like)

there's actually quite a bit of info on the Hamer Fan Club site on the various models through the years

Yeah, quality isn't really an issue, all the US Hamers are top notch. If there's even the slightest issue with a guitar, it doesn't leave the factory. The only thing to watch out for is some wear to the finish, usually around the neck joint...often known as "Hameritis." This was corrected some time ago, but it can be a small problem with older models. Curly is right though, the neck thickness is something you'll want to be careful of. The first Hamers made in the late 70's and early 80's had thicker necks. They switched to thinner ones in the mid 80's to satisfy the shredders, then switched back to thicker necks in '94. '94 was a transition year, so you'll find that neck thicknesses vary somewhat in that model year. Mine has a fairly thick neck...not quite 50's LP thick, but a moderately chunky profile which I find very comfortable. But I've heard others with '94 models say that the necks on their guitars were pretty thin, so keep that in mind if you're ever looking at a '94 model. They switched to a slightly thicker neck beginning in '95, and I believe most of the Hamers made since then have the thicker necks. There will always be a small amount of variation because these guitars are made 100% by hand.

The best values are the Studios and Specials from the 90's, as well as some of the Artist models. The Studio Custom models are more expensive, but the only differences between those and the normal Studios are cosmetic...the Custom's have body and neck binding, block inlays, and upgraded flame/quilt tops.

Oh Gary, That's a beaut. I remember when you were bidding on that baby.
Need to break the new Digi-cam out & post the '93 Lew gassed me into buying last year(no regrets, thanks Lew). Just as purdy, but dark cherry sunburst. Awesome guitars. :saeek: :burnout:

Peace,

Darrin

I've since replaced the stock pickups with a nickel covered BBQ/Alnico II Pro set. As you can tell from the wear, mine was definitely a players guitar that's been around the block a time or two, but it has a beautiful flametop and emerald green finish...and I got a killer deal on it. :32:

haha, Darrin!
yeah, I gotta give props to Lew and others on the forum who turned me on to Hamers
as I remember, Darrin, didn't you get a TV yellow one, too? :)

anyway, used Hamers are a great deal ... mine was about $725 or so - nitro finish, flame maple, and SD '59 and JB pickups.

Re: Nice tour...

Ah heck - Gary & Ryan you should not have posted those pictures of yours, I now have no alternative but to post my 2003 Studio Custom - sorry guys  :32:
