Nickle is much easier to take care of and doesn't give off as much glare like chrome does. I like the look of nickle better than chrome.

As far as is one better than the other... No

Nickle is much easier to take care....

no.

nickel will tarnish requiring you to polish it now and again before it stains permanently so it's certainly not easier to take care of. chrome won't tarnish and a quick wipe with a cloth will clean it off. chrome is more resistant to scratches and pitting IF (that's a big if right there) it's a quality chrome job. cheap chrome will pit and look like crap due to sweat and moisture. however when it comes to sperzels they use pretty high quality plating for all their stuff so it's not a worry.

chrome shines more and has a clearer brighter shine to it and nickel is a bit more dull but deeper and a bit more rich in its shine.

it also depends on what guitar you're putting it on so it matches the current hardware because nickel and chrome look very different when put side by side. so just match the hardware you have now. odds are if it's a gibson standard it's nickel if it's anything else it's chrome.

Re: Nickel vs chrome plated sperzels?

its for a strat that im guesing has all chrome

im havign trouble finisng the chrome plated ones in my area thats all.

also im using right handed ones and im going to convert them, not that it should make a difference

Re: Nickel vs chrome plated sperzels?

I'd say that nickel looks more "golden" than chrome. I actually like nickel more due to the fact that it will tarnish, and look vintage in less time. :)

Re: Nickel vs chrome plated sperzels?

is there a way to keep nickel shinier and looking more new then?

what would i need to polish it with?

thanks

Re: Nickel vs chrome plated sperzels?

Nickel has a "whiter/richer" sheen like silver, and is more relaxed and cloudy in its shine overall. It is more vintage-y! It starts to age as soon as it is used, but nickel feels so friendly to the fingertips

Chrome is generally more shiny, and "bluer", and retains a mirror-like finish. It says brighter longer. It has more of a mirror finish in the real world, and and is considered more garish or kick@ss, depending on one's perspective. Chrome is great for low maintenance.

Polishing nickel with a common household metal polish will work, but I do not know what brands are available to you. Keeping the guitar in the case when not played will extend the life of the strings as well as the shine of the nickel hardware. Nickel plating is softer than chrome.

I have a Gibson with nickel tuners, and chrome bridge and tailpiece. The nickel/chrome contrast between this 25+ year old instrument doesn't bother me a bit...but a set of covered humbuckers might determine what looks "right" for a particular guitar.
