NID: (New Interface Day???) Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Anniversary Edition

Just arrived yesterday. I have the original 1st gen, and as much as I love it, it always had an issue with headroom on the 1/4" guitar input. It would clip if you looked at it wrong. I almost always used it with a DI box into the XLR connector. The 4th gen model fixes all that, plus adding some cool new features: Auto, Safe, and Air.

(The 1st gen still works as the best outboard soundcard / headphone amp for my laptop.)

Auto sets the gain for you, while Safe "rides" the gain control in case you really screw up.

AIR is a little weird. From the manual: Adds presence and harmonic drive. Whatever the hell that is. I'll have to play with it.

The 40th Anniversary edition comes in a unique drop dead gorgeous anodized blue, and includes a bunch of cool software.

Can't wait to play with this. (Internet pic since my photog skill stink.)

Do you know if Air is like an aural exciter where it mixes high frequency distortion to enhance the high frequencies, or just an EQ? I remember being curious about that when reading about them a long while back.

I'm not sue. I haven't really wrung her out yet. I've only used it as outboard soundcard, so far. But I will do a full review when I get chance to play with everything in depth.

I'm all ears. Never heard of that.

When you plug it in it acts both as a soundcard and also as a small storage medium like a USB stick. They put the drivers and some junk software on there.

Disadvantage being that you have an additional drive letter til the end of time.

That's odd. I have a 1st gen, my new 4th gen, and an 18i8, and I've never seen one show up as a drive letter. Just a soundcard.
