NILPHSD!!!

Re: NILPHSD!!!

Congrats! I hope you talked to the boss. I had a situation like this last year with a music store in the northeast. The owner emailed me the next day and said his employee put the wrong price on the item and was not authorized to do so. He then offered me a much higher price with a small "discount". Sounds like folks in Montana are a bit more professional though.

Gearjoneser would have rented a snow cat and some cross country skis and been there within the hour

Not everywhere. That particular store just happens to be an excellent store with really good long time employees and an owner who was basically raised to run the store (his dad started the store, AFAIK).

Yeah... I spoke directly with the owner several times. He's the one who took my credit card info and emailed me the receipt. So it should all be good.

I did leave-out some "drama" though. When I first stumbled upon the deal and called the store, I talked to Paul (the owner) and asked what the story was on it. He said that they'd just put it up on the site earlier that morning, and that it was a trade-in on an acoustic and seemed to be in like-new condition. I was in a meeting at the time, and not near my desk to give him my credit card info. So I told him that I'd be calling him back shortly with that info. So I called my wife and had her give me the numbers, and then I called the store back. I had trouble getting through for a little bit, because the number was busy. But I finally made it through (all the while envisioning that someone else was calling for it and had already given him their CC info). When I finally got through, he said that there may be a problem. One of the employees had promised it to another guy as a layaway the night before and the owner just found out about it after I'd told him that I would call him back with my CC info. So he took my phone number and said that he'd try to reach the lay-away guy and see if he was "serious" about the deal, or if he'd be willing to let it go. So I decided that I'd better not get my hopes up. After a couple of hours the owner called me back and said that the layaway guy had a room full of gear and had been more or less talked into the deal by a store employee, and that he'd step-aside and let me take it instead. So I thanked the owner and said that I appreciated that, and that I would have been cool with it if the layaway guy had wanted to complete the deal. Obviously, the store would rather have its money sooner, rather than later... so they were motivated to help me end-up with it.

Anyways... a bit of drama there, but for a deal this good, for an amp/cab this good... it was worth it. I spoke with the owner directly several times, and have my printed receipt... so I'm not losing a bunch of sleep over the amp being a pumpkin by the time I get there Saturday afternoon.

I will definitely update this thread when I have the amp in-hand and am playing it. I don't expect there to be any more drama and I hope that I'll be giving it (and the store) a glowing review. Based on my week with my buddy's Quickrod, I don't have any reason to expect anything less than a stellar amp that will hopefully find a long-term home in the man cave. I've got a Ceriatone Chupacabra that will sound GREAT in a stereo rig with the Splawn (just like my buddy's did). I shall name the rig the "Splawn-Chup" and bow before its glory. :bigthumb:

Re: NILPHSD!!!

Looky what I stumbled-upon while bored at a meeting this morning... DOH!!!

Splawn QuickRod halfstack for... wait for it... EIGHT HUNDRED FREAKING DOLLARS!!! (As you can clearly see.)

I was browsing a "local" music stores used-gear section on their web site and lucked-into this. I've done business with them since the mid-1980s and they are reputable. So I called up there and asked "what's the story on the Splawn?". The owner answered and said that a customer had traded it in on an acoustic and that it looked to be pretty much new. I'm thinking "WTF???". So I gave him my credit card info and I'll probably be heading-up on Saturday to pick it up (they're 120 miles away). EIGHT HUNDRED BUCKS??? R U kidding me??? Talk about New INSANELY Low-Priced Half Stack Day!!!

Holy **** man, you stole that thing! I had to cough up $1500 for my used Pro Mod half stack (Quick Rod with a KT88 poweramp). You're gonna love that Quick Rod, especially if it has the B+ Voltage Mod.

Congrats!

ETA: When I run mine in a stereo rig, I love to pair it with my Recto. Something about the strong mids of the Splawn counteracting the more scooped nature of the Recto creates tonal bliss.

Yeah, it was definitely a deal that I could not pass-up, no matter what. My [beyond tired of my collecting] wife didn't even mutter a word in protest... she just said that she wants to make the drive with me, because we always enjoy visiting the town that this rig is located in.

I have no idea what iteration this QR is yet. My music store buddy (who owns a 2012 QR) asked what year it was. I just told him that at this price I didn't even bother asking. Even if it's the oldest version of QR, it's well worth what I paid for it. But I get the feel that it's a later model. Footswitch has 4 buttons, so it's likely not the older model.

Yeah, I'll bet that your rig sounds huge! I've also found that to be the case when running amps that compliment, rather than duplicate each other. My Chupacabra tends to scoop the mids a bit, so the QR compliments it very well.

Re: NILPHSD!!!

You sir, have won the internet! :headbang:

Congrats!

Thank you sir!

And indeed, the dream is true. I couldn't stand it any more and "popped" over there to grab it this AM. I just plugged-in for a moment at the store to make sure that it made sound before I hauled it back the 120 miles to home and it sounded great. Didn't even see what gear it was on. Had that classic hot-rodded Marshall tone that I expected. So I threw her in the rig and ran back home (to work). I'll be spending more time with her tonight in the man cave and will give a more comprehensive conclusion to my NAD later tonight.

Btw... I want to give a kudos/shout-out to Paul and the staff at Music Villa in Bozeman, Montana. This is the store where I got this great deal and I'm beyond pleased with the deal so far. I bought a T-Rex Magnus multi-FX pedal from them last fall at a sidewalk sale for $100. They are awesome and I will continue to browse their website looking for further deals in the future.

Also, one of the staff who helped-me haul the rig to my car and put it in is named Luke Flansburg. He's does lead vox and guitar for a Pink Floyd tribute band named "Pinky And The Floyd". I saw them in December and they were awesome. They play PF from all eras, but this Saturday they're playing in their hometown (Bozeman) and doing a big theatrical production of the Division Bell album. I'm almost tempted to drive back up there for that show, as that's my favorite PF album. I know... heresy to the old school die-hards... but I like what I like. Anyways... check them out! http://www.pinkyandthefloyd.com/the-band/

Re: NILPHSD!!!

As much as I would of loved to had kept it if I was in your situation I know I would of flipped it and made a nice lil profit off of it only because I know I wouldn't have any use for it.

Re: NILPHSD!!!

Wow... insane deal. I really hope it all works out for you in the end. It's always great when nice guys get great deals like that.

Without being orpheo'd...

Legends tell of a time when a forum member, smitten with an item he found on the 'bay, posted about it to the Forum. Orpheo, himself also smitten with the item, bought it out from under the aforementioned other forum member.

Dude, seriously, you're an admin. You should be up on Forum Lore... ;-)

Hey, it says right in the rules we can't read everything. LOL

If I spent more time reading every post here I'd get divorced, fired, AND flunk out of school. LOL

It worked out perfectly! The seller is tops in my book. I spent a few hours with her tonight and absolutely love her. I'm feeling pretty lucky right now! I'll type up a quick review in the morning.

Re: NILPHSD!!!

Paul rocks. Luke is awesome, too. I've seen Pinky and the Floyd a few times, it's always a good show.

Music Villa is just a quality store across the board. It's the only reason I'd ever want to live in Bozeman again.

Totally agree man. I went to school in Bozo and then lived there for a year after that. I loved it, and hated it at the same time. But it's just exploding now. My coworker calls it "Bozangelas"... LOL!
