NLBD - got a new lunchbox

Yeah just the MIC cheapie 6L6 , the tubes are very dull and flat especially in the mids

I figure if I can get an EL34 in there and get Marshall-esque tones out of it it's all win

***Scored a Svet EL34 today and popped it in, sounds much better, picking up some Ruby 12AX7s tomorrow***

Does that amp allow swapping between 6L6 and EL-34 without rebias or any other changes? The pinouts are different and usually some work is needed to make that swap.

Nice. Smart design work. I knew some amps had that ability already but didn't think this little guy would.

It was designed by Andy Marshall/THD for them and I think the Univalves etc from them can do that too.

Fair sounding so far, it seems to like my 410 cab more than the 112 with a GB128 but the 112 will be it's home most of the time. I am sure some better pre's will wake it up

***Kind of digging into it a bit more tonight and I've got a very Ronnie Montrose sound going - I'd keep an amp just for that lol. I Got the Fire!***

Glad to see that you joined the club. I have a JJ's 6CA7 in mine right now.

Put in 2- JJ ECC83S's, big difference. Useable gain till 6.5 or so, the low end is signifigantly tighter, still a bit flubby, and the top end is a little fuller and more natural sounding. It definitely has a Montrose vibe to it. I might pickup a good 6L6 and try it. I love the early Montrose which was mostly his Bandmaster into 3-10's I think so maybe I got lucky.

Bought it on a whim so I'll take some luck

Oh it does not like my Special with P-90's so much but the LP with the DA-59s, yeah they work together
