Death played my club decades ago. Really nice guys and a great sounding band.

If he's talking about that Death, they're ****ing legends. Used to love them when I was into Death Metal.
Chuck Schuldiner seemed like the nicest guy ever as well. Shame that he died so young.

It’s strange because I love band with scooped tone like Metallica and Pantera but I hate playing with a tone but it doesn’t have enough cut or body, I used to run my mids at full but run them at 80% at the moment,
That being I also like bands with mid pushed tones as well like Mastodon and Periphery.

I'm a big fan of Behemoth's tone from Demigod onward. Same sort of tone I usually strive to get no matter what gear it's on.

I saw them live a week ago and they sounded meh to be honest, the guitars were way too quiet in the mix.

^^^ I rarely ever hear a band live that the drums and vocals aren't set way too loud for the mix.

^^^ I rarely ever hear a band live that the drums and vocals aren't set way too loud for the mix.

This style of live mix has crossed over to recorded music, where the vocals and drums are way up front and everything else is in the background. It sucks !

Amen. I want to hear the drums and vocals. I want the guitar to tear your head off and the bass to liquify your guts.

For me drums and bass are the bedrock, the fundamental of the mix
Depending on the style the guitar volume may vary but the vocals should always be the loudest thing in the mix.
My favourite drum tone is Periphery
My favourite bass sound is Tool
My favourite guitars... a huge selection of Pantera, Death, Tool, Periphery and Alice in Chains
My favourite vocals are Pantera, Tool and Alice in Chains
Favourite mixes of all 4 are Pantera, Tool and Alice in Chains.
Live though guitars should be louder or at unity with the drums and that’s a very thing

I prefer everything sit about even unless there is a ton of lyrics (like most bands, especially when the vocalist doesn't play a guitar/bass).
If there is lots of lyrics and it's death/black/screamo/core style then I much prefer them to sit well within the mix, not out in front.

Then there's something like Hey You by Pink Floyd where the vocals just have to be in front,,,,,totally different thing though.
