No one seems to talk about SD Basslines

I have 5 String Jazz bass, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. I like the way it plays, and the tones not bad... but it's pretty muddy sounding. not a lot of definition to the notes. I was wondering what would get me a very "wooden" and "dry" sound? I don't realy know much about bass pickups. Would a pre amp be a better choice?

what amp are you using?

Jazz basses aren't known for being muddy

an epiphone something.

this isn't a fender jazz bass though. I got it from rondo music for $120
