No reverb on Mesa Roadster

I searched and have tried the following:
-swapped tubes in V4
-made sure reverb tank cables were plugged in and plugged in correctly
-tried different brand new tank
-reverb knobs on back were up and even maxed
-Master volumes are above 9:00

Read something about jfet's in a thread, but before I have to go to a Mesa tech almost 200 miles away, is there anything else I can try?

Only thing I noticed weird was when following the cables that go out from where the RCA cables plug in to the amp, where they meet the board, the red one has no solder. And no indication of there ever being any solder.

Re: No reverb on Mesa Roadster

Use a very small solder tip and flow some solder into that…. that may not be the only issue, but it sure doesn't look right.

Re: No reverb on Mesa Roadster

I would call Mesa direct before I did anything. They can probably clue you in as to what needs to be done. Best to confirm that the red wire needs to be soldered.

Have you looked inside the tank?
The fine wires that join to the ends of the springs wear out pretty easily. They are fine to allow movement, but they can break easily. Usually its an easy fix.

edit: just reread you thread saying you tried a different tank. I guess its not that then!

In follow up, you might want to start a thread over at The Boogie Board at www.grailtone.com

There are several techs who do Mesa Warranty work and hang out there. But still, your best best is to call Mesa and talk to one of their repair guys.

Good luck.

Went there first, but no replies. Not as reliable as this forum! Wires in the original tank look fine. I'm guessing it's an internal issue. Definitely calling, just hope I can do it rather than a tech.

Re: No reverb on Mesa Roadster

Have you tried using a different switch to turn the reverb on/off? If there is a problem with your factory switch, it could be disabled. Using a switch plugged into the reverb switch jack would eliminate that. A long shot, but worth the effort to rule it out before a 200 mile drive.

Very true. The footswitch was disconnected during my troubleshooting, but worth a try. I also failed to mention when tapping the reverb tank I would get a sound like thunder...

Well no luck. Looks like I'm out of options except tech. Thanks, everybody.
