welcome to the forum!

the custom custom is alnico 2. the custom is ceramic and the custom 5 is alnico 5. they all have the same coils

The Custom Custom is only what it is because of its magnet. Otherwise, it's the same as a Custom and a Custom 5.

Haven't you even done the basic step of taking a look at the manufacturer's description? It will answer your question.

I thought Robin Trower played regular Strat singles? I can’t picture any of the Customs getting into Trower territory.

Yep did and no humbucker is going to get close. Been a BIG Robin Trower fan since the mid 70's BTW. Set of Texas Hot Antiquities would be my suggestion for that tone!

Thanks I have been looking at singles. Robin said he he is on the neck pup or the middle most of the time rarely uses the bridge.

I like Seymour Duncan pickups, have been drooling for some for years. They are my #1 choice.

Everyone needs one of Duncan's "Custom" pickups and 5 different magnets to swap out in it. Swapping magnets out in the Custom pickup is a mini-education in pickup tones that every player should have. It is a study in extremes.

Can you actually get that though? Do SD offer for retail a pack of just one custom pickup with a range of magnets to go in it?
