Is it true that these are the same circuit?

If so, is the ODR actually an overdrive or dist. pedal? Anyone else with insight into the Fab circuitry? (Talking about the plasticky one that sold for like $10 new, not the earlier maroon "Fab Tone" or whatever.)

i'm on my second Fab after the long death of my first one, and wondering if there's a "better" way to get the same tone, also not really interested in doing a re-house. Any other clones available?

No, its mostly based around a boss circuit or moded clone of one.

The odr1 doesn't boost the midrange like a ts9, its still more of an od than dist pedal though.

For cheap check out rat clones or the hardwire tl2 used one for a cheap distortion pedal. Joyo also makes lot of od/ dst pedals that are clones of popular pedals.

Curious what Boss circuit equates to the Fab?

For sure not the DS1 . I used to use a Rat quite often but don't believe that's the same as the Danelectro either. Read somewhere online that the ODR-1 was a Fab. Would love to find the pedal in a standard casing with quality construction etc.

Look into some MXR pedals. They can be had cheaply used and are generally built very well.

Joyo/Mooer are also options. I know people say they don't like the construction, but my Joyo Sweet Baby and Mooer Trellicopter have lived on my board for 4 years and not given me a lick of trouble.

Thanks for the advice; I've used an MXR dist. plus in the past, and have an MXR Prime on my pedalboard at the moment, which covers the ground of a DS1 but has a better balanced tone to my ears... I haven't played around with many of the other MXR distortion boxes.

But to be clearer, I'm not looking for something cheap; the Fab is already cheap, which is why it wasn't so bad to need to pick up a second one. I really like the Fab's tone, so I'm trying to figure out what it's based on so I can either get that, or figure out whether someone else is making a clone of that pedal.

I've gone through a lot of pedals, and the cheap Fab is still a favorite; I just dislike the casing and fall-apart build quality/reliability.

i don't know anything about the dano, but i've been using the nobels for a while now.
It seems to me to be best suited to single coil guitars going into blackface style amps.
It adds some dirt, edge and harmonics with no bass cut. It can get plenty dirty if you want, or more or less completely clean. It is a really great pedal for those time (pretty much all the time) when you can't crank your power tubes into distortion so you can get the grind and squish you need at any volume.
Don't know if this helps or not re the dano, but if you are a tele or strat guy and use fender amps you owe it to yourself to try one.

Being a Guthrie Trapp fan, the ODR-1 has long been on my list of pedals to try, but I've yet to actually see one in person.

when those came out some dudes on DIYstompboxes.com traced the circuits. I think you need to login to really search their site though:

I don't recall if they directly corresponded to anything. I used to have the FAB OD, it was pretty cool. For $15 just buy two and when one breaks buy another to keep as the backup. Would they really ALL break?
