Noel Ghallager? Seriously?? Really???

They were huge in Europe in their mid/late 90s. Not my genre by any stretch, especially after listening to Wonderwall several dozens of times, but they found a niche, quite an unpopulated one at the time. Blur, Senser anyone? :-)

Well, they are set to reunite, so no doubt 90s nostalgia prices are going to kick in.

I'm actually a big fan of both Oasis and Noel's solo stuff. I think these stupid pricey guitars are dumb, but he's no less worthy than lots of other guys with stupid pricey guitars (Ace Freely three-pickup Norlin re-issues, anyone?)

I will return to this issue later to make my case

KISS vs Oasis

KISS---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Oasis
1973-2024+ (50+)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------20 (and back together this year)
20 studio, 13 live, and 14 compilations (47)-------------------------------------------------------7 st, 2 li, 5 comps (14)
Cruises, a movie, a TV show--------------------------------------------------------------------------Zip
60 Singles released-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------27
$81M concert Gross in 2019, $300M by the end-----------------------------------------------Not enough to publish
$143M in 96/96 for reunion
Famous Guitarists influenced by Ace-------------------------------------------------------------Lot's of articles about his influences
Sig Guitars from KISS----------------------------------------------------------------------------------1 so far, and more expensive than any of the KISS guitars
  • Ace- 8+ (including Epiphones)
  • Paul- 10+
  • Gene- 2

It's not even close. Not even in the ballpark. It isn't even the same game.

Going down the list:

KISS is a bunch of old people, Oasis is middle aged
KISS is a bunch of sellouts who somehow managed to string about half a dozen recognizable songs over 47 albums
Oasis maintained the integrity of their name by not selling it to wife-swap ships
KISS, being active twice as long as Oasis, has twice as many single
KISS sold their entire catalog, image, and IP to a private entertainment firm, Oasis is not worth enough to do that
$300M isn't enough for KISS so they need to do a lot more merchandising deals, such as 20+ guitars

Furthermore, In 2009 Teenage Bottlerocket alleged that they were "Bigger than KISS". Oasis has sold more records by far than TB, so by the transitive property, Oasis is also bigger than KISS

Not that I'm saying Oasis is better than Kiss, I just think you are underestimating Oasis' influence and impact in the 90s, Ace.

I would listen to a single KISS song on a loop for the rest of my life before exposing myself to any more of the Oasis catalog

After reading the posts, I'm guessing this guy is the guitarist for a band called Oasis. ..... Don't know if I've ever heard anything they've written?

Is that the band who sings "Josie's on a vacation far away.." i like my girls a little bit older..... .song?

Sounds like I hate them already! Ha ha ha.

When one discusses KISS, you must clarify whether you are discussing their influence on the entire world, the genre of rock, or a specific contentment, as well as the performance.

When discussing Oasis, we are discussing if they had an influence and where it might have been.

Just sayin'
