Noise Gate/Suppressor or EQ first?

Hey guys, I'm going to be getting some money soon, and I've discovered some nice tones coming from my Randall combo's amp distortion, which is something I've never heard before. However I would like to buy either a noise gate or an EQ, just to clean up the sound and get some more tones that I'm even more happy with. What would you suggest buying first? The models I have in mind are the Rocktron Hush Super C and the MXR 6-band EQ.

Oh and Canadians, do you know how much the Super C goes for? I know the EQ is about $130.

For noise gates, nothing beats the ISP Decimator. The Boss NS-2 is a close second, though.

Stay away from the Hush series.

For EQ's, I like the MXR 10-bands, but I plug straight into the head most of the time, don't even use the noise gate.

yeah, if you use a good amp you shouldnt need a noise gate at all.

Not necessarily. Even the best amps still have some hiss or hum, expecially under high gain. When you turn that amp up, feedback is insane without a gate, or withing turning your volume knob off.

With the MXR 6 band you are going to need it. I am planning in getting one of those ISP Decimators soon....Everytime I play it feels like I am on the beach with the shushhhhhhhhhhh......

What about the MXR noise gait? Is that any good?

Re: Noise Gate/Suppressor or EQ first?

I just found a BLUE 6-band MXR EQ from the 80's... the one Dimebag said made a big difference in his tone. I think I might pick it up!

Pureoldsound, why do you think that for sure I will need a noise suppressor if I get an MXR 6-band EQ?

Re: Noise Gate/Suppressor or EQ first?

I use a MXR 6 band with my setup (The black box), I love the pedal but it is noisy, very noisy.....About the blue box the thing with that is that it does not have a bypass switch so it will be on all the time.......
