Re: noise gates, which one..

Been using an ISP decimator for a year now.

Great if you don't want to be riding the volume knob constantly and don't want to lose sustain.

Re: noise gates, which one..

It really depends on what type of set up you're using it for. I mean, if you're running a huge rack and multiple processing units, then of course something more powerful is necessary, but if you're just trying to get rid of the hum from single coils, you don't need something as strong.

Re: noise gates, which one..

I've heard better things about the ehx humdebugger and the rocktron hush. If you have a decent amount of money for toys try something, if not just keep what you have because it won't be much different.

in sig:rolleyes:

Re: noise gates, which one..

Stick with the BOSS, and also make sure your using it to it's full potential (using the loop in it).

Re: noise gates, which one..

The Boss NS-2 sucked way too much tone for my taste. If you don't believe me, try A/Bing between the pedal and direct into the amp and get back to me. The only pedal I've ever used that didn't suck out the dynamics of the rig is the ISP Decimator. That's the best recommendation I can make if you absolutely NEED a noise suppressor.

Re: noise gates, which one..

Alesis 3630 if you´re going rack, as much flexibility as you´ll probably ever need in a compressor /Limiter /Noise Gate ;)

Re: noise gates, which one..

My bad. I misread your sig. I thought it said "And way too much other stuff". I used to use an NS 2, but in the end I just remade my rig so it had less noise. Is the noise really that bad with the setup you have? It doesn't seem like it would be too bad.

i play in a small room, with lots of gain, and im not turning it down because then it wouldent be to my taste. Its just to stop the feedback between playing and not playing etc.

more affordable + effective.

Re: noise gates, which one..

brit84.. trust me man.. I've tried alot of noise gates out there and nothing at all came close to the ISP pedal or the rackmount unit.

i owned the Boss NS-2, Rockman Smartgate, Rocktron Hush, Rocktron Hush IICX and trust me.. nothing did as good of a job as the ISP decimator pedal did. Ofcourse I sold it later and purchased the rackmount version :D

cheers

Re: noise gates, which one..

It depends on your setup and what you want the gate to do.

I used to use a huge rack setup... I had two different rack setups... one had the Lee Jackson GP-1000 Perfect Connection, ADA MP-1 (original), Roland GP-8, ADA Pitch Traq, and the Mesa Boogie 395 power amp.. I had gone between the Rocktron Pro Hush and Rocktron Pro Q (which was great for the high gain setup.. .and it all MIDI'ed and it was nice to have that super tight Helmet/Prong/Pantera gate, but then there were times it just didn't make me happy..

Sometimes, it would have been nice to have just the stock Boss Noise Suppressor pedal..

Re: noise gates, which one..

Hate them all...can't stand what any gate/suppressor does to the sound!!

The only problem I've found with a noise gate is that you can't roll off the volume as much and still get the signal through the gate as well.

If you need to roll off, just kick it off.

With my decimator, there isn't an affect on sound at all. Just silence when I'm not playing.

I do know what you mean though, a lot of noise gates make the sound "choppy" where it cuts off sharply after every note or makes the sustain decay.
