Noiseless single coils.

Re: Noiseless single coils.

The Suhr system is a poor compromise.
I had it on my Suhr.
It only takes away some of the hum, takes away the top end and is a nightmare to install... PLUS if you have a RWRP mid single, you gotta change it or the system won't work.

There is a vid on you tube demonstrating it and you can hear what I describe quite clearly

I switched to Kinmans ( the Marvin set on my Suhr with his K3 no solder loom ) and never looked back.

The guitar was stolen about 2 years ago. :banghead:

The Suhr BPSSC is not 100% effective, but properly installed its close. My last one in a Suhr is almost perfect. I've gotten good to very good in my Fenders.

Suhrs are kind of weird with their shielding to me. Slightly undo the pickguard (like to adjust the trimmers) and its liable to buzz badly, which makes setting the BPSSC trimmers a little harder. But the big deal is the way they shield is consistent and it works well. I have not mastered that yet.

The built-in system IMO is about as good as it gets. I notice no loss of high end with either. If there's loss with either its not enough for me to notice (and I consider myself very picky).

Still if you have a ground loop or EMI source, all bets are off. Even an EMG based rig I tried once buzzed like a swarm of bees.

Stacked PU's vs the BPSSC (not the built in SSC) the stack always wins in noise rejection. Soundwise its always the other way around, but I have not tried the newest crop from Kinman. Right now I don't want to consider any Dimarzio products anymore.

You can use RWRP with the BPSSC, though its not optimal. Polarity usually can be flipped on a RWRP pickup. This results in different winding direction, but reversed leads takes care of it. I have one Strat set up that way right now.

Otherwise, you can use a super switch and defeat the BPSSC for the middle pickup but IMO that's kind of a waste.

Re: Noiseless single coils.

Hmmmmm.... in that vid, I felt like I could hear a very very slight loss in volume and high end with that system turned on.... or that could have simply been the permited hum coloring the tone in a different way compared to it being silenced... I had a wonderful set of custom pickups by Jerry Amalfortano (spelling?) in my Lipe Virtuoso and the cleans were beyond killer, but the bridge pickup lacked a lot for me and I couldnt handle the noise under distortion... I go from rock too blues to fusion to Satriani jam wanna be... the Dimarzio Heavy Blues II in the neck now, Area 67 in mid and AT1 in bridge sound great though and I get wonderful tones. I wonder how these Kinmans would sound too though.

Re: Noiseless single coils.

Now that you point that out - I hear it too. Still - very very slight. I didn't hear it as much in the high end - mostly a loss in gain. Definitely not enough for me to ditch the system for another solution.

It might be a feel thing more than an actual sound difference. Also could be the interaction of everything involved. That low impedance antenna might actually have a slight effect - swap the cable for another brand or introduce a buffer, the result could be slightly different.

Wonder what was done to induce the hum? It just sounds like something was done to exaggerate the hum ordinarily experienced. FWIW, it would be nice to know as it would help me set those trimmers more effectively.

I just do not have that problem plugged into an amp right now. Up until 6 months ago, I had a Flourescent fixture that made me tear my hair out trying to fix my hum issue, but it was a different hum.

On Wilde pickups - I've got a set of L-200s. I need to give them another shot, but those had nice quack, but I had a very tight low end with those. I did not care for L-280s. I hear good things about the L-45. I must also mention out Host's Vintage Rail, though I think they would be better in an alder/rosewood setup (Mine are in Ash/Maple).

I love Bills cables!!!!
