I don't know. These were the only ones in black and big enough that I could find. I would assume based on price and the fact that the material wasn't mentioned that they're not nickel silver.
But then again, the tone doesn't seemed to have changed noticeably like it apparently does with brass...

The reason why I ask is because if you look on the Duncan Site at the Benedetto humbuckers, they are Black Nickel and they appear to be REALLY FREAKIN BLACK...just like yours.
When I look on ebay, the Black Nickel looks more like gunmetal.
Sorry it took so long to get back... No residue at all, the stuff is water thin and soaks into the wood immediately. I put 2 coats on, when I got home from work after midnight and never handled it less than a day later (it was bone dry by then, there may be an acutal time listed on the bottle, I just never had more time to work on mine when I did it) THis neck has been on multiple guitars and the color is still just as dark a couple years later, no fading or wearing off at all.
Original neck, before staining
Not a very good pic of after, but its DARK now
I didn't tape off the maple part of the neck well enough and some of the dye leaked thru and stained the maple. Either mask REALLY CAREFULLY, or use "automotive pinstripe tape" and the green Frogtape or you'll get black maple. I used wood bleach and sanded like a mofo to get it off...
