NOOB-style Jaguar question.

Going along with what Lucius said, the Squier Jag came in several different configurations. Mine came stock with the Duncan Designed JB / Jazz set. It's one of the few guitars I have that I've left completely stock.

(i assume the original Squire pick ups are ceramics?)

Many thanks.

Like others have said, play it first you might be surprised. There is nothing wrong or lacking with ceramic pickups. Yes, ceramics are used in a lot of cheap pickups, but not all ceramic pickups are cheap.

You may like your pickups in the guitar already, so second guessing a pickup swap before you hear the guitar might only result in a sideways step. But that being said, the most vintage Jag pickups are the Antiquity and the Antiquity II. Which one is 'better' depends on the EQ you like or your guitar needs.

i love antiquity ii jag pups! but you should see how the stock pups sound before messing around. you might like what you have or you might decide that you dont want to go super vintage

So, what exactly is the single-coil Jaguar sound? Mine is the "Vintage Modified" version with humbuckers, so probably not authentic. Would Johnny Marr be a good example?

I think of Sonic Youth, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, if it's modern-ish sound you are going for through a Marshall. Outside of that, my Jaguar is thin, low power and bright, with not a lot of sustain. Vintage stock Jags are kind of in Denelectro territory a bit almost.
