Norlin goodness from the ancient past.

I wasn't always a hardcore Tele Guy, witness this 1979 photo. In my defense, this Norlin-era Les Paul had a maple neck. It was a good guitar.

Cool guitar.

When I started getting serious about internet forums an guitars (2001-2002), all you would hear about Norlins were that they weren't even worth it as firewood. Now they've, predictably, turned into vintage collector's grade guitar as they got older. I'm sure that, just as with every period, there were some killer guitars in the lot.

Yeah. Norlin era made some of the most sought after models... silverburst, customs, fretless wonders... there are dogs of course, as with any era.

Cool shot, nice axe!! The maple neck make much diff in tone? One of my fav players has a maple neck lp. IIRC.. (John Sykes) Yeah, funny how stuff goes collectible like that.. Not quite anything like LP prices or collectability, but but back in the 80s when Charvel had the Model series and Kramer came out with the Focus series, everyone cried blasphemy cuz they were made in Japan.. Awhile back, you could pick them up dirt cheap. Then, everyone wised up how good the Japanese ones are and prices went way up on them.

As far as the Norlins, I have very little experience with them myself, but I know some guys that Love their Gibbys from that era..

Yes, it did. Shortly after buying that one, I got a second Norlin, a tobacco-sunburst standard, which had the normal mahogany neck. The goldtop was a bit brighter. Not huge, but a noticeable difference.

I tell you that what it's not that the 78 Les Paul I had was bad - it was a great player - but I wouldn't trade My 58 RI I have now for it.

I felt the same way about the maple necked LPs that I owned, just a little more bite than on any mahogany necked LP I've owned.
