Norton opinions?

Any thoughts on the DP160 Norton? Dimarzio descirbes it as a more modern PAF sound with alot of harmonics. They also say that it's "Really good for opening up the sound of mahogany set-neck guitars".

I think I might try one in the bridge of my LP :)

i would like to hear about this pup as well?

seems no one ever talks about this dimarzio?
according to dimarzio it is right between a fred and tone zone tone wise which sounds like it may be pretty cool.

Re: Norton opinions?

I have used both norton and air norton in a few different guitars and they sound very different depending on the guitar.

norton sounded very fat to me, and i really liked the tone in LP scale mahogany style guitars - its definitely a modern sounding pickup which i like alot. my problem was that i wished that the eq "peak" of the pickup emphasized upper mids a bit more, rather than the low mids - just not enough upper mid punch in a live mix, going through my rig. I had to turn my treble all the way up on the amp which i don't like to do normally. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice sounding pickup - it was in the live band situation that these problems materialized. Without those upper mids, I couldn't get it to cut as well as I normally like.

Air norton worked great in the bridge, similar vibe, that modern sound but airier (no, seriously), and more of the highs (and cut) I was looking for - however, on one guitar (a semi-hollowbody), I felt that the high frequencies were louder and a bit out of balance with the low end - no amount of tweaking the pickup height could remove this oddness. I'd hit a note above the 7th fret on the high E, and the guitar felt like it was running away from me volume wise - I didn't dig that at all. I think it's how the pickup emphasizes the upper harmonics - that "bite" works great until you start hitting high notes. If this could be resolved, I think the pickup sounded great otherwise (I'm going to continue experimenting with this one). On the Dimarzio site, the Air Norton and Hot VPAF have very similar specs, power and tone-wise, which I thought was interesting...

In a brian moore, the air norton bridge didn't do it for me.

In a Hamer, the Norton sounded great - much better than the Seth Lover it replaced.

Hope this helps!
