Looking for a good medium/high output pickup to go in to a set neck, mahogany body, rosewood fingerboard guitar. Standard tuning punk, hard rock, metal. I have a JB now but I'm looking for something a bit warmer and slightly les output. I'm between the Dimarzio Norton, Duncan custom 5, and EMG fat 55. Anyone with experience with these pups?

Custom 5 will be too scooped compared to a JB, maybe Custom Custom?

Re: Norton vs custom5 vs Fat55

The Custom 5 isn’t so dramatically scooped as the chart says it is. It’s midrange is different, but it’s there - you can hear it in sound clips. It’s worth a try. Another suggestion would be the Perpetual Burn pickup.

Ok, no more polls.... this ain't the Gear Page, and you have no "Rob option".

What is this thread supposed to accomplish that the other did not?

Re: Norton vs custom5 vs Fat55

IMO the Custom 5 would be a great choice for a mahogany set neck. I have one in an Epi Firebird and it doesn't sound at all scooped in that guitar. I have an Air Norton at the bridge in another mahogany set neck and it's rather midrangey. (I think in a maple cap guitar it might be better- have considered trying it in a Les Paul instead.)

No experience with the Fat 55s myself.
