Not So Happy New Guitar Day

So, I ordered a Schecter Hellraiser C-7 from Guitar Center and it came in yesterday. At first look, it seemed great. Plugged it is, sounds amazing, huge, clear and articulate, great for prog. Feels amazing as well. Then i take a closer look. Theres scratching all around the guitar exactly like what i have pictured below, i just got the best examples. Do i just deal with it or try to get a refund/exchange? I'm kinda disappointed cause i thought id be getting a brand new pristine guitar but instead i got a brand new shouldn't-have-passed-quality-control guitar. What do you guys think? I love the guitar but if i could get one that looks better I'd be all for it. May even be considering the ESP LTD H7 cause its $100 cheaper and very similar body and neck and has better specs.

If it's playable and properly setup I wouldn't mind. Plus you said that it sounds great.

That being said, selling a used guitar as new ain't cool. But I can't really tell if the damage was done in the factory or if it's indeed used.

It came in the box with all the packaging intact, so I'm going to guess its new but you never know. I think at the least i may try and get a replacement, maybe get the black one. Not too sure how fond of white i am. I have a while to decide though, so its all good.

If you were expecting minty fresh ( I know I would have) then complain and get it exchanged, don't settle for that crap. You pay your had earned cash so get the new one you paid for.

Re: Not So Happy New Guitar Day

You could also send them the pics and politely demand a hefty % discount to avoid the return (don't even discuss an exchange initially because that kills your leverage).

See what they'll do (probably not more than 20%(and I wouldn't accept much less than that in your case), which does reduce the price a fair amount), then you can always talk about exchange later if need be.

If it plays like dream and things are near perfect from nut to bridge then that's probably what I'd choose,,,,but I kinda prefer things just a little bit ugly sometimes lol.

I would demand a discount. You already know you like the guitar. If the scratches bother you (and they do), you will never be happy with this.

Update: I returned it and Ordered and ESP LTD MH-417, should be here sometime next week [emoji2]

dunno man, both of them are made in the same factory, I think. I hope you'll get something decent this time.

I figured, but I've seen a lot more LTDs in fantastic condition than I've seen Schecters in even good condition, so hopefully i don't get a lemon. And im not sure but I'm thinking what i mistook for scratching may have actually been the clear burned through, i have no clue. It seemed kinda rough though so i don't really know.

When I buy new I expect it in pristine condition that's what you are paying for. IMO I would send it back and get another.

Those scuffs could have happened in shipping. I would have asked for the discount.

That LTD is satin black? It's going to look horrible in a month.

I actually got the baritone model with a flamed maple top, it's a gloss finish. Plus I've owned a few satin black guitars and I used car Polish and a cloth to buff out the top to a somewhat semi-gloss sheen.

I really like the look of black satin guitars especially when they've got some playing time patches on them. Glad you've got it sorted though and look forward to HNGD.

Ex GC Guy here:

I'd agree with this ^^^.

Just because it was in the box and packed doesn't mean it didn't get pulled off the floor/wall and repacked.

Get a scratch'n'dent refund. If they refuse, send that ish back.

Re: Not So Happy New Guitar Day

When you get the new one, don't settle for it. That better be perfect. Or send it off again, and start shopping at stores. I'd be mad about it too.

Re: Not So Happy New Guitar Day

On a different note, this guitar I'm getting measures 41" in length and the interior of my hard case measures 41" in length. Should i avoid using the case? Something just doesn't seem like that'd be all that dandy to me.

Re: Not So Happy New Guitar Day

It's a shame that there aren't more brick and mortar shops with a wide selection. Leaving so few options but to buy online can be a factor in the issue...it's as if there might be a degree of counting on people to not return items with QC issues.
