Not-So-Traditional Ultra-Contour Build

I decided to depart from the traditional on this built. It's all ash but in a 1 1/4" thick chambered body and 1/2" cap with laminated Padauk and wenge. The burst around the edge was tinted to match the padauk. Extreme belly cut and forearm relief. Even the upper bouts/horns are drastically contoured. This guitar just seems to wrap itself around my body. It is so comfortable that it seems as if it were just a natural extension of my body...I hardly even notice that it is there. I still have to do the final sanding and polishing then I'll get all of the electronics wired in and neck mounted. I can't wait to get it all together and try it out.

I haven't been able to work on it as much as I have wanted to...I've been very busy with other things and the temperature has been over 100 for the past three weeks or so. That makes my garage an unbearable sweat shop. Pretty soon I'll have some more to tell you about this guitar.

That looks really nice Doc. It's good to change things up a little every now and then. I really like the way it looks; both woods and color. The heat is a killer this summer, literally. 100 I the shade is just no fun, even if you're working on something fun. Looking forward to seeing the final result.

Got ya there. It got up to 110 here. The garage where I do all my work, must have been 120. I'm also looking forward to the final result. When it's done I'll post more pics and a review.

Ed, yes, air guitar is an apt description so far.

Very true, but at 71 Doc needs to be cautious with the heat. He's got me by 20 years and the heat kicks my butt. My father, god bless him, is one of those people who just isn't happy unless he has a project to work on. He's at my sisters house in Tulsa this summer helping her with projects. His first project was to fix the fence my sister had installed that was done incorrectly. He was out in the yard, by himself, digging post holes by hand, chopping thru tree roots and moving big pre fab sections of fence by himself.

Did the entire back yard alone at 76. Now he's installing new siding then painting the house. I've told him that I worry about him in that heat working so hard, but he literally cannot just sit and chill out. Very rarely.

Anyhow Doc, just be careful of the heat and keep your electrolytes up. This has helped my dad feel better in the heat.

Re: Not-So-Traditional Ultra-Contour Build

Jeff, your dad sounds a lot like mine (God rest his soul). He worked like that til he was 89.
Yeah, I drink plenty of electrolytes. And when I get too hot and sweaty I jump in the pool for a while...then back to the garage.
Building guitars has become an obsession with me. It's so fun and creative and fulfilling.

Thanks all for your remarks/comments (and advice).
