Nothing like some Pop on a Sunday!

Hey guys,

I was motivated by Mr. Another Black Season to re-do "Something To Think About". ;) The acoustic guitar has been re-tracked (this time I finally figured out the bpm for the song and tracked it to a click track) and re-did the vocals with some more "oomph". I usually hold back with the vocals, but decided to push them and hope I stayed mostly in tune. The results kinda speak for themselves. And best of all, no sh1tty Auto-Tune. All amateur me :D

Thanks for y'all that commented on the first take and I think some of you guys are going to dig this one a lot more. I'm a lot more proud of this one than I was the first. I'm sure there's a lot more I can do to it (stuff like EQing, doing a non direct track of my Ovation 1771LX for more body, heavy compression, etc.), but at least it's starting to sound pretty good to these ears.

Recorded through Logic Pro at 48khz. Vocal mic is a Lawson MP47 Mk II (love that sound). Preamp used is an API 3124+ and the conversion is thanks to an Apogee Ensemble. My acoustic was recorded direct in.

Let me know what you guys think :) I can't believe how many hours I've spent on this one today :eyecrazy:

Now I have to ask why didn't you just do it like this the first time? :)

I personally hate to re-do things. This sounds 100 times better, your vocals, the timing everything. I would compress that guitar more if you haven't already and add a touch of reverb too.

Thanks buddy. The fact is that I'm a perfectionist and it's easier for me to release something with blatant flaws than to try to shoot for a goal of attaining a perfectly recorded song. I have a problem of leaving things well enough alone and I constantly tweak. I've got more ideas of developing the sound that I'm going to shoot for, but I've got to rerecord a few parts on both the vocals and guitar to get the foundation "just right" before I do any more recording with it. Getting things perfectly in time with a click track is the bane of my existence, especially when I initially retracked it with a quicker tempo and had to delete it all and try again. Listening back though, I have to agree it makes all the difference in the world.

This is my take on that. Perfect can be perfectly boring, knowing when to leave things alone because they add to the final is an art in itself and knowing when they detract as well. That's what I was getting at before when I posted a comment on the tune. Performance trumps perfect when it feels right I think.
