I get the lightweight thing. I like light guitars. I would also understand why it would might be great for things like saddles. I wonder if anyone has ever used titanium frets. It would be like stainless, but lighter. I would imagine it isn't so easy to work with (tool), as it would kill any tools you use.

lol, according to petillo guitars (creators of the high precision pyramidal frets) stainless steel is the best all arounder fret material, even when other alloys provide better suited superior features, they make the process so much harder and complex that they aren't worth the hassle, mainly for cost increase and workability

Enough (Jescar) SS fret wire for a fret job costs me about $2 more than regular fret wire. The only significant cost I saw was any extra time needed and any increased wear on fret tools.

I can only rationalize that shops charge more for it to offset the cost of new fret tools.

I don't like the way crystal frets look. The Bond Electraglide guitar from the early 80s didn't have frets at all- it used a sawtooth pattern on the neck. The points acted as frets.

thats very cool and seems like a terrible idea at the same time. i play hard with heavy strings and i feel like i would ruin that after a fair amount of use

Well shifting gears a bit, I recieved the Ti Strat bridge. The difference in weight is nothing short of amazing. In fact after I recieved it in the mail I took it to the post office to open it in front of a clerk cause I thought it couldn't possibly be an entire Strat bridge!

This particular bridge block is considerably smaller than a normal sized Strat block, and not sure if they are all like that or not.

Anyhow, it's all academic, I'm having to send it back becasue the guy said string spacing is 2 and 7/32's, but it's actually just the mounting spacing thats 2 and 7/32 and the string spacing is narrow 2 and 1/16 spacing and won't work with my wide Strat neck ...the guy is being totally uncooperative , and I'm having to open a claim through paypal.

if i remeber correctly the fretboard of the electraglide was some kind of really hard wear resistant (i think epoxy based) polymer, so no doubt it was able to handle really heavy strings

on the thing about costs, titanium really eats out tooling, even military grade tooling gets replaced quickly when working titanium, also the fine work, due the inability to bend it the way s-steel can be bent makes radiousing titanium frets makes for a nasty hard and precise tedious process (at least according to petillo)

Man/Dude/Jer you do this with everything. Maybe research the product a bit first before buying it that way you wont have all this hassle every time you arcade the bIN button on ebay.
