Tortoise shell binding is awesome. That guitar isn't to my taste at all, but that is a very nicely matched top. The neck is sweet too.

Uhh, probably not. The two thinline tele bodies with quilted maple tops on warmoth's site are $700 and $860 for unfinished bodies. Plus, a heavily flamed, finished neck with binding would cost at least $547 by my calculations. So just for an unfinished body and a finished neck alone it would cost between $1,247 and 1,407. Just for wood! And I'd bet is probably isn't as nice as the wood on that Fender. Plus, I'm probably forgetting some options that would make it somewhat equitable to the fender in the link.
Don't get me wrong, that CS Fender is way expensive. Hell, that guitar isn't my style at all. But its got a lot of fancy wood that is **** costly. I don't think you could build a warmoth or USACG equivalent for less than $2k to $2,500... for a parts guitar! And you know what that Fender will be worth in 10 years? The same amount, if not more. The parts guitar? You'd be lucky to get $800 for it tomorrow.

That's not too much for a full time working guitarist making bank to pay. If you're making the dough, you might as well invest it in something killer like that.
It's way too much for the bar-band guys. It's still getting off easy compared to nearly every other style of instrument...certain mandolins will run over 10K or 20K, and prices of $5K - 7K are really common. Orchestral instruments are even more pricey.
Gotta get the gigs and lay out the dough for the good stuff.
