Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

Re: Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

Is it meant to recreate early (80's) video games sound scape? Nostalgia from prehistoric IT maybe??

Re: Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

Not the best bit crusher(I think thats what it's called) I've heard. But it's pretty good.

Re: Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

My mac has a bitcrusher built into garage band, its really awesome at low settings. It takes the audio quality down so its sort of like a dirty clipping.

Sweet
When I first heard this clip I thought Who's playing a game from the 80s in the backround?

Interesting. Maybe once I build the other pedals I want to do I'll add on to the list.

Re: Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

Is this anything like that '8-Bit Fuzz' pedal that looks like an old NES controller?

Re: Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

I tried a mod on a DS-1 that did that. I thought it was pretty neat until I actually had the pedal ready to go. After that, it was kinda boring.

Re: Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

That NES thingy-mabobber sounds pretty sweet. That bit-crusher looks like such a hug pain in the butt to build!

Rid (or anyone else): do you know of any other production or not-so-complicated DIY bit-crusher that do the same thing?

Re: Now this is a sweet DIY Pedal

There's a ring mod preset on one of my processors, and I really dig turning on a techno drumbeat and jamming over it. I can't imagine going to the trouble of building a pedal for that, though.

I'm also curious how one decides if a ring mod (or similar) sounds good or not :)

The schematic looks prett average, easier than most modulation effects...

Here's the Alesis Bitrman, it does ring mod, bit crushing, etc. and you can find it on ebay for about $40.

I guess it boils down to if you can make music with it. The EHX Frequency Analyzer is a great sounding ring mod, it has a blend and a hi-cut filter that really let you get some beautiful sounds. Greanted, most of the time you aren't going to be using it in your SRV cover band, but I can use it sometimes.

http://media.zvex.com/ringtonedemo.mov I always thought this sounded great. Ton of dough, but fun.

I was kind of joking, coz by nature of what it is, they sound pretty nasty :)
