NPD -- AnalogMan Sunface content

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
After a shoot out with 8 different fuzz pedals (3 Fuzz Faces, 3 Sun Faces, 2 JMI Tone Benders), I picked up an AnalogMan SunFace, BC183/Sunface Dial/DC input.

This pedal just KILLS. It's incredibly reactive to what guitar and amp you are using. I am greatly looking forward to trying it stacked with other pedals in various combinations as well. :)

Re: NPD -- AnalogMan Sunface content

hell yeah.
What made you settle on that version?
Great question. I played across all of the pedals turning the dials at random, but the setting that I really liked was with the volume just above unity and the fuzz set to about 11 o'clock. I set all of the FF/SF's to the same setting after a couple of rounds and in the end I picked the one that I felt got in the way of the guitar's tone the LEAST.

It makes a very throaty, mildly fuzzed boost that I really like for not-quite-clean playing.

Playing through the pedal at home with my own guitars and amps, I am amazed at how the pedal sounds radically different depending on the guitar and amp in question. I am going to be trying some recording experiments over the weekend, particularly with a DI and will try layering the same part with different fuzz settings and amps to see what it sounds like.

I'm hoping that the promised foul weather heading our way allows me to run down to storage tomorrow to fetch my Strat, tho. I think that the Strat/SF/Champster is going to sound monstrous!

yeh i use my fuzzface for low gain, not quite clean sounds mostly too. Except i have the gain a little higher on the fuzz and roll back the volume on my axe. They all sound different at different point on their gain range tho. Love the bias function tho - a necessity in my opinion.

Cool!

I am happy for you!

:)

I am wondering about comparing yours with my NKT275... Any input?

I played an NKT275, BC 108 and BC183. I really liked the NKT the least of the 3. The 108 was in the lead until the very end; the 183 is just more versatile for my needs.

Re: NPD -- AnalogMan Sunface content

Just finished playing w the Sun Face for the past hour or so, switching between my Strat & Tele. I am using the Beano Boost to focus the tone a bit and remove the LF mud, but it sounds fantastic on its own, too. Next up will be to try it with the Studio 2, which has EQ and a Presence control, so it should be easier to tame the SF.

My favourite setting now is Volume at maximum, Fuzz at 12 o clock, and use the guitar's volume control to clean it up ...

Re: NPD -- AnalogMan Sunface content

It looks like a Beano boost and either a BC108 or BC183 SF are what I need.

BTW I loved the black SF...

I think the looks are quite cool.
